I find nothing strange or sinister in this news if there is some truth in it.
The chairman has proved to be an astute businessman and l would expect him to have an eye on one or two possible targets should the need arise for a new coach. To start a search from scratch would be grossly negligent.
I am not advocating dumping TM by any means just seeing forward thinking planning from progressive ownership.

Can't say I've heard of this fella tbh. Mowbray has done an outstanding job and if this link is credible (and Romano is usually on the money tbf) I hope their is still a role for him at the club.

He's not wrong. How many of us would have taken 12th place and 50-odd points at the start of the season?
I just wanted stability and no relegation drama. It's mad to think we are potentially 5 games away from being a PL club again. Just madness

Absolutely.

I would be very surprised if TM wasn't in charge next year like. Don't think we would immediately just start to be rash. Only way I see it is if a private conversation has happened.

If he's an upgrade on TM, bring him in.

We need to keep upgrading our players AND staff. That's how we'll keep progressing. Nobody minds us bringing in new players to replace what we have if they're upgrades and improve the playing side.

Why should it be any different with a manager?

Love Tony and would like to see him get next season but feel it’s inevitable we’d go down the route of a young up and coming coach at some point, assume he speaks multiple languages too, wonder if the change depends on promotion?

Must admit I wasn't impressed when I saw Mowbray in the rows behind KLD against Coventry on the opening day.
To be fair to Mowbray he has generally done an excellent job with the resources at his disposal.

Maybe a role upstairs is being offered but this smacks to me of us operating in the way it's been reported that Brighton do, namely, having your next manager/head coach in mind before you lose your existing one. They have done similar with their players as well.

I'd be surprised if there is anything to this at this stage unless TM has indicated he wants to do something else.
Romano seems to be pretty accurate in his reporting most of the time so who knows.

Exactly. Also look at his record. This is peak Mowbray really.

If we don't go up and the club believe this new guy would be better for kicking us on, I'd be all for it. They've not got much wrong, so far.

Only just seen this. My expectation is this merely the succession planning Speakman talked about , and he’s just been identified as a long term option we can quickly move on should we need to. Doubt more to it than that

It’s good planning.

The talks may even be to bring him in as assistant to work with and learn from Tony, before Tony retires next year. Proper succession planning that. Done in the corporate world all the time so it’s the kind of thing Speakman would be all over.

interesting speculation i guess but a few clubs are apparently interested (although KLD seems to have many good friends/contacts around europe) and TM was kind of 'rushed in' at the time.

maybe it was just a 'stick around for the rest of the season and get us safe' type of agreement and replacement managers have all been well vetted in advance...if TM wants to leave then it would be a good time for him although i think he could do a damn good job working with the younger lads, less pressure on results and a good eye to see who is capable of taking the step up.

Is it really any surprise that the club has a young highly rated coach on their radar? Speakmans office is probably littered with reports on up and coming players and staff from around the world. Mowbray has done a fantastic job and deserves to have a say in his future, but this is the new club philosophy now.

It's concerning how this or why this would come to surface right now.
That aside I simply trust the Owner to do what's best for us and we would all be disappointed if the club weren't looking ahead behind the scenes.
A De Zerbi type would be great when ever the club and TM feel the time is right.
Personally if I was Mowbray it would cross my mind to step away or step back while my reputation and stock is sky high.
He's proved me wrong (not that that matters)
Knowing when to quit while you're ahead is something not many know how to or when to do.
