Lads and lasses can I just ask you to check your wing mirror before you open your car door.

Monday evening on the way home from work I got knocked off my bike with the comedy classic car door open in front of cyclist.

I manager to partially swerve out of the way but still went over the handle bars and landed heavily on my right hand side.

I now have the biggest purplest bruises I've ever had all down the outside of my right leg from mid-thigh to above my hip and from elbow to my shoulder. Plus on my left hand wrist.

It wouldn't be so bad but we flew out on holiday Tuesday and sitting by the pool everyone is staring like I have the world ****est cover up tattoo.

Oh and as I was lying there swearing and groaning the first thing the van driver said to me was don't worry about my door are you OK <laugh>

If anything similar has ever happened to me ST, the question has usually been 'hows your bike'...

The odd (= weird) and the excellent.

Here are two attempts to make a castle:

One is a solo effort by an American - I have no idea what he is trying to achieve except to scratch some itch in his mind. I am amazed it has not been shut down from a safety perspective - allowing kids up to th top of this folly is sheer folly. He has no background, I think, in structural building engineering, architectural integrity, structural integrity or safety standards - but it is on his own property and people visit - he can't charge and he cannot get insurance. It has been a herculean lifetime work, but I don't know...it really is just a fantasy castle with zero architectural merit, inspired no doubt by Disney interpretations of castles

Now, on the other hand, this is fascinating - really want to visit this. A brand new medieval castle built as it would have been built in medieval times using almost nothing but what is available locally - a true medieval castle built with medieval tools but built in modern times:

Watched a series on BBC which followed the building of that medieval castle on BBC called Secrets Of The Castle. Found it fascinating. Was on iplayer but sadly does no longer appear to be on there.

That is the one. Remember Ruth Goodman being in it as she now appears in a couple of programmes about food production as well as other history programmes and one about the history of the railways.
Well worth a look for anyone interested in that sort of thing.

You a fan of castles matey
