It's amazing how Jones can be a mainstay of a very tight defence, one of our most consistent players but because he was signed in L1 deemed unfit to wear the shirt by some fans. Same to a (now slightly) lesser extent with Coyle. Elder may be interesting as he may want longer than we're prepared to offer on a new contract. It's an area we need to strengthen regardless so I'd half expect a decision to be made on whether the second option is going to be either Elder or Fleming going into next year. I'd find it difficult to justifiy keeping Pelkas given the reported outlay. Not sure Doc is getting enough gametime to justify a new deal and Woods was a big earner at Birmingham and won't have come here for pay cut - Simons seems to be preferred. We could also play Tufan there now he has his engine back. Maybe not a popular opinion but I'm not sure Connolly has been available enough to take a gamble on his fitness either.
Noticed that Wrexham are getting the FFP issues with the TV programme they’re on. Could Acun not make a similar programme bring the readies in to help?
Think he addressed that by saying that it could happen in the future but it would be for another company than his to make any documentary.
Christie can blow hot and cold. Coyle is consistent and just plugs away. No brainier to trigger his extension. We're fine with those 2 vying for the RB shirt.
As others have said, RB is a position we really don't need to look at this summer. We've got a first choice who would be comfortable in a top 6 side, followed by a competent back up who's on a one year trigger - we can comfortably activate it without worrying about which division we'll be in 24/25. There's some obvious other positions we need to concentrate on this year - sorting out Darlow or another keeper, depth at CB, a starting LB, a solid midfielder and one or two more attackers. That's already at least six players - if we get them right that could well be enough to get us challenging. Any more additions surely will depend on whether anyone goes out, rather than adding to areas where we are already well covered.
This sounds like a post by someone with a bee in his bonnet about a player and no matter how well they've played, they're always going to be ****. Coyle isn't ****. He is a solid championship fullback, not a winger, but he can overlap and has a decent cross on him. I feel like you're just desperate to slag him off.
Wonder if Figueredo leaves we just go with Andy Smith as backup RCH? Surely if Jones is fit he plays anyway?
I'm not sure about that, although I've got to admit I don't know a huge amount about him. But I'd be keen on a bit of Championship experience. Jones and McLoughlin are great, but neither have played in the Championship long term. I'd like to see an Elphick type, someone who can show a bit of experience if we go on a bad run of form and are chasing promotion. Same with the midfielder we bring in to be honest.
This is how it is for a few posters with Coyle in particular. Doesn't matter how many times he plays well, he's permanently pigeonholed as a limited, rugged player and there's no nuance beyond that. He's probably the best crosser of a ball at the club, but that isn't a consideration to those whose simplistic narrative is that he's limited.
Coyle brings a lot more to the club than the playing side... a bit like Andy Dawson in some respects..
I think we have 3 solid CH's in Macca, Jones and Greaves. I know its not en vogue to play 2 lefties but enough clubs play 2 right footers at CH so I don't see it as a problem. Smith is 21 and has played 33 times in L2 this year on top of half a season in national league. I wonder whether the next stage for him is to fight for a first team place in the championship. It'd be a shame if there was no route to the first team for him here and he has pretty much mimicked Greaves so far in his development. I'm not so sure Greaves will go this summer as some people seem to be convinced he will. More likely to cash in on Oscar IMHO. I agree we need an experienced physical midfielder as a foil for Seri as a priority though.
Not this summer. If we get bids I'd expect them to be around the 5-7 mark as was the speculation last summer.
i aren’t desperate to slag him, he tries hard for the shirt and I respect that. If you think he’s fine then you’re lost imo. So let me get it right, we can’t criticise a single player, we need to give them all new deals and stick by them yet we are still… 16th. If we want to go up we simply need better, there’s no emotion in this for me I don’t have it out for anyone, I just see someone who isn’t good enough to take us where we need to be. friends from work that I’ve taken to games who support leeds of all people (actual wessies so marginally better) even said to me after Blackburn unprompted “no idea how Coyle still plays for you, need a new back line if you want to challenge” there’s something missing, playing within limitations to appear solid and having the ability to turn us into challengers is all I’m alluding to. new CB/LB x 2/RB for me
For me now is the time to put him in and give him one last chance. There is a player in there somewhere, just not sure he was suited to the pressure playing out from the back brought when first tried. If nothing else he looks like a centre back should although I except that's not really good enough grounds to keep him!
