It is like we are from Middle Earth and he's telling a story about us to a school group. ''The hobbit folk of Newcastle distrusted the tricksy fat one Mike Ashley'' would have better suited the tone of the article.
 
Everything I read by an American with regards to people from Newcastle has this similar sort of perspective. It's clear they have never been <laugh>. There's an old US ESPN article floating around about 'Which English Premier (pronounced Prih-Mear of course) League Team Should I Support?' with a bit of info about the fans of a few teams, it has us down as ultra working class, flat cap wearing, suprised-by-outsiders types who sit in small local pubs tipping our hats to any foreigner who orders a bottle of Newcastle Brown.

I was watching Fox Sports the other day, and their Premier League advert is pretty clueless too. They've digitally draped flags over landmarks in England, like the Liverpool and Everton flags on the Liver building. They've put the Newcastle and Sunderland flags on the Angel <doh>. Newcastle yes, Sunderland...not so much.
 
I still think they should have put the angel in central Newcastle. Rio style <laugh> but with a nod to the industrial era.

Like Sunderland fans could find their way to The Angel.

Two Sunderland fans are walking along. One of them picks up a mirror, looks in it, and says

"Hey, I know that bloke"

The second one picks it up and says "Of course you do, you thick twat - its me!"
