Aye, that was the game I was thinking of. Something has to be done but it's one of those rules that never gets enforced.
Back in the 90s they created a rule that said an injured player must leave the field of play for treatment. That lasted about 6 weeks before it became - game is stopped, player gets treated on the field,, player has to walk off the pitch then back on it,
Few years back they introduced a rule where a player has to leave the field by the nearest exit - that lasted about 2 weeks before it became - player leaves by whatever exit he desires, usually the longest if they are time-wasting and will do that "slow walk, but arms pumping walk" that takes about a minute - usually after the left back has been told by the manager he's getting subbed so makes sure he's on the right wing when the board goes up. This all changes if said team are now losing and are desperate for a goal - in these instances the player sprints off at the nearest exit
Don't get me started on the "head injury" bullshit that has started now. Player gets kicked in the shin, but his team are in danger of conceding a goal so falls down holding his head and ref stops game
It's not the rules, it the people who (fail to) enforce them
