it is getting worse every game now, if not a joke only 2 mins added on in the first half, 2 of their players just plonk themselves down on the pitch, have they no bottle ? our players should do it tomorrow at QPR if we are winning but i don't want that i hope we keep pushing them back etc. a player should get off the pitch have a quick check over, and these physios are taking way too long, they have not got a broken neck etc just a tap most of the time. get a stretcher straight on in the future also the goalkeepers are the biggest offenders, this should be sorted.

Guarantee if our lads started doing it they would be straight in the book. The ref on Saturday was an absolute disgrace what he let Reading get away with.

Fifa dealt with it in the world cup, England v Iran game went to 116 minutes. Why doesn't the EFL ensure the refs implement that, and award cards for repeat offences.

Been saying it for years - reduce each half to 30 mins and stop the clock every time the ball goes out of play.
OK it won't stop teams trying to disrupt the flow of a match, but the end of game nonsense with the keeper taking a year to take a goal kick will be eradicated

In the first half the referee kept looking at the Reading players, every time they took a minute over each throw in then added on two minutes ffs <doh>

The thing is it’s so obvious when it’s happening but such a simple thing to fix. Time waste once and it’s a talking to and inform the captain of that team that the next time will be a booking. Time-waste again and it’s a booking no matter which player. If that player is on a yellow then send him off, it’s cheating after all.

It would be pretty much stamped out after the first couple of players get booked.

Referees have either been told to not book players for time wasting or they don’t have the balls to do it. I reckon it’s the former.

He even pointed at his watch. Only now do I realise he was saying "don't worry lads, I'm not keeping count"

What made it bittersweet was that Ince was complaining that he didn't add enough time on

If one team has been time wasting all game but are losing at 90 minutes the added time should be cancelled. Bit of an arse on to keep track but the linesmen could do it as they do **** all else these days

Aye. Amazing how a goal completely changes the landscape. There was a team last season (or was it this?) that were timewasting from the 1st min, but then we scored late and they were sprinting after the ball for goal kicks/throw-ins etc

It just shows these cheats for what they are

Last season. Fleetwood, I think. But plenty did it regularly when we were down there. To be honest enough did it that it blended together after a while.

The easiest way to fix it is to add proper time on and book players for time wasting. The added time in the world cup worked and if teams start getting hit with suspensions from bookings over time wasting, it'll hurt them pretty quickly.

Crewe were time wasting from the off last season - the ref finally lost his patience and awarded us an indirect free kick inside their box due to the keeper holding on to the ball for the 100th time. We had been pants up to that point and it woke us up and we went on to score 2 late goals - strangely their keeper was charging around at top speed after that.

    They did deal with it.

But it soon changed, and we were back to the standard five minutes or so. The only answer is to take the clock away from the ref. He can signal "time out' for injuries, subs, other delays , intentional or otherwise, goals etc. Hooter decides the end of the game as in Rugby.

This won't happen as the big clubs don't want it to happen, ( though they bleat when they suffer), and nothing happens without their direction. FIFA too must have been leaned on by certain countries as they had it spot on early in the WC.

Aye, that was the game I was thinking of. Something has to be done but it's one of those rules that never gets enforced.

Back in the 90s they created a rule that said an injured player must leave the field of play for treatment. That lasted about 6 weeks before it became - game is stopped, player gets treated on the field,, player has to walk off the pitch then back on it,

Few years back they introduced a rule where a player has to leave the field by the nearest exit - that lasted about 2 weeks before it became - player leaves by whatever exit he desires, usually the longest if they are time-wasting and will do that "slow walk, but arms pumping walk" that takes about a minute - usually after the left back has been told by the manager he's getting subbed so makes sure he's on the right wing when the board goes up. This all changes if said team are now losing and are desperate for a goal - in these instances the player sprints off at the nearest exit

Don't get me started on the "head injury" bullshit that has started now. Player gets kicked in the shin, but his team are in danger of conceding a goal so falls down holding his head and ref stops game

It's not the rules, it the people who (fail to) enforce them

It was pathetic when the Reading player pretended he'd been kicked in the chest, went down over the touchline ...

... then rolled over three times to get back on the pitch and stop the game.

The referee should've booked him, it was so blatant.

I would say an immediate yellow card for the clear time wasting, even very early in the game. It is clear that they are slowing the game down and reducing it to a number of stop start episodes. Yellow card, no exceptions.

And, for head injuries, a mandatory ten minute substitution, whether you're faking it ir not. If you hold your head when you go down , your head is hurt, and a ten minute assessment is required. No exceptions.

    This won't happen either.

Independent time keeper. Ball in play for x minutes so time wasting is done away with overnight. Not even a difficult option!
