In some ways I was wondering (shocking suggestion on the way) if a defeat is what’s required to get a formation reset.
Trouble is that we’re not Chelsea and have a dozen internationals waiting for a chance - we have Murphy, Anderson, Targett and Ritchie waiting in the wings.
The team just doesn’t create as much without Bruno. In 12 months we’ll have more. Eddie is probably doing as well as it’s possible to achieve with our squad depth.

Yes I agree mate... there's still an underbelly of absolute dross

This. Howe isn't totally blameless but the squad, as we have all stated, is poor. Overall he's doing a remarkable job and with better players, he will do better

Exactly. We are just over 1 year into a 5 - 10 year plan, as the owners communicated. We've really overachieved so far this season with a very average (overall) squad. It's difficult to maintain in the PL.

Yes performances like today's are frustrating and **** to watch. But I'd much rather be top 4 and in a cup final than looking around to see who else is in the relegation fight.

So I'm just enjoy being where we are while we're there, knowing that over the coming years things will get even better.

The problem is that Many have as I pointed out the last month started to believe in the hype.

They've become fixated on top 4 and think newcastle are actually one of the best sides in the country.

The reality is that they've over achieved for half a season and they will fall away to a position we should be happy with , but they won't because they got carried away.

Fffs, Mancs could only draw with leeds the other day. All is not lost for the final.
And for a good league finish, look at Spurs and Arsenal today, we have to play all the teams around us and I believe we'll start scoring again and go on a run. I felt all season we wouldn't finish in a top 4 and never got carried away but cenceded that if we are still in a top 4 spot by the end of March then we have a chance, still believe that.

We have gained a point on 5th place.

Good summary. It’s difficult to stay realistic when there’s so much to get carried away about. We’re not the only ones constantly throwing points away, it would just be a massive shame to not capitalise on THREE big clubs failing this year, how many better chances for top 4 will we get?

If this is our bad spell as Chaos has predicted so many times
Then I'm happy with our bad spell

Normally in our bad spells of previous years, we get twatted every week
I don't see this happening anytime soon

I think it's merely the beginning of one, but it's the overall picture we must focus on.

The future will be better than this and worse at times on the way to paradise .
