well..... cheslea problems are deeper than new toy owner. No manager faith. Theres a historic scatter gun approach (someone at cheslea must be advising the shiny toy loving owner) If someone bought LFC say and then decided klopp needs to go then...... our first logical place to go is if the man that got to 4 european finals in 7 years, won every type of trophy available bar 1 and done it without the cash must mean we have a lot worse to worry about then them buying randoms. If said new owner comes in in july say and keeps klopp and lobs 500mil in front of him then frankly some targets may well already be gone (fully expect bellingham to go and caicedo to go in may/june for july 1) Klopp needs to be working with WHOMEVER on his list of targets. the question for me is whether FSG are putting someone in place as technical director or not. As a project: a) stadium 61k. More done than Chelsea but not as good a position as st james' or indeed city (who were handed ground) this depends on attitude to the project and approach. If someone wants an ego trip them its perfect possible to get to about 72,0000 seater with phase 3 and 4 if you stop worrying about railways and transport and force the council to make decision (that do affect peoples homes btw and businesses) This is far far far better position than Chelsea who have a fake 1.75billion set aside for something which likely won't ever happen. b) Team: LFC have certain aspects of a side and there is like Chelsea a temptation to throw the baby out with the bath water and just go mad. Chelsea look to be signing 2 players in every bloody position or more at this point and totally ignoring what they already have. We have a lot of a team but we need to think whether its klopp's team or shiny new objects, cos shiny new objects approach cannot work. Gakpo, diaz, jota, nunez. all kopp types for hard running and pressing. thats the forwards done but if someone wants mbappe to please you lot then it all goes to pot. Midifled is probabaly a total write off. Defence... well its got 4 players and some reserves so another 100mil for reserves if you are the todd keeper is no issue. c) revenue models and campus. if they want to build shiny **** round anfield and regenerate the area to look like city then that will be totally different approach.
It was successful from 16-20 when we were winning pl and CL. Since then, we haven’t been as active as we should have been. Largely due to the fact that we had less valuable assets to sell - well we could have sold assets but chose to hang on to them until their legs fall off
but you could decide to say that aside from one big year it was largely paid for by sales. when we added ox, fabinho and kieta to vvd and alisson it was the club using the coutinho money and then some. since then it's been a tightly controlled budget. the shock was 2020 when Jota and thaigo and tisimikas arrived on the never never but imo we have paid the price since.
I think Jimmy's point was that the argument that they're reluctant to spend because they're about to sell doesn't really stand up if it's the club's money they're spending, not their own. They would surely want to realise the maximum value of their asset, and I'm sure they're shrewd enough businessmen to know that lack of investment in the team can undermine that. Tbh, I have no idea what's going on, and I doubt anyone else here does - it's all speculation. What bothered me most about the Brighton game wasn't the standard of the team, but the poor attitude. There seemed to be no determination or fighting spirit, a sense of defeatism that was so unlike any Klopp team I've ever seen.
I dunno, rarely would be my view on that. I have seen times where they've "given up" in a game and punted it in from too deep or they know a game is gone. I think we've seen other teams not being too arsed in the league over time, like under rafa or under rodgers and then when a cup or cl game comes they actually try more cos they now think something is still on the line.
With low confidence throughout I think Brighton were one of the toughest teams we could have faced. On the up and scoring goals,a media raving (rightly) about Caicedo,Mitoma and WC winning MacAllister,a new manager who has made them more dangerous than Potters side and full of confidence and drive. We were as ****e as Brighton were excellent.....but our work rate and that 'fighting spirit' is a real worry.
My list on this is as follows: Leicester - I thought they were **** but imporved a little and would be a marginal game for us. we threw in a goal and scraped thee win hanging on. brentford - would outmuscle and outfight us, but i had hope some quality would come through but called it tough in the preview. wolves home - thought they are bad at scoring but got better at back. then we threw in 2 goals. Brighton - I thought we would be hockeyed by 4 as the evidence of the prior three games were worse than i feared. it was 0-3 in the end wolves away - I think they are a little tired and have a couple knocks but i see a fragile side. we could do ok but need first goal. we could be hockeyed Chelsea- - can't score and are **** but are far more able in midfield and have the legs to kill us. Really tough. Wolves away again - This will be tougher than the fa cup. we look brittle now so i think a draw would be good. Everton home - dogfight we don't need. they are **** but will work hard. if we throw one in then its 0-1 all day. the next 4 games have to have enough work rate that "quality" comes through. if the work rate can't match and we make stupid silly ****ing errors in our own half then we will inevitably not get a 1-0.
It's about momentum. When you have it you build on it. We're not creating any momentum at the moment. Once we do, we'll be back on track. It's finding the source of that momentum that's eluding us. Injuries to key players has always put the team on a bit of a downer because we really do operate like a machine. We're more than a collection of individuals. One or more parts stop working and the machine takes time to find a work around. Either that or nobody checked Origi's bag when he left to see if he'd taken our mojo.
Don't know if stats prove it but it seems like we have more than our fair share of injuries ( over a few seasons) to key players and if that's the case then it needs sorting out.
It’s not surprise that you look at us and chelsea who have had major injury problems and down in 9th and 10th. where as arsenal have managed to keep solid 11 week to week and built some cohesion.
the funny thing is we looked absolutely wrung out just before the covid suspension and that il fated night v athletic where Boris killed 50 odd lfc fans buly not cancelling we were all out on our feet. last year running to 92 points, cl final and winning 2 cups if anything was "tougher" ask
Anyone have any stats on rotation? Last year, it was probably a group of around 14/15 players that played the vast majority of all of those games/minutes. Compare that to City, for example who could switch out the entire team regularly and can easily cope with key injuries. my guess, I may be wrong, is that if you look at stats on minutes played last year, a lot of those players at the top of those lists will be struggling now.
3rd richest club in the world based on 21/22 revenue behind city and Madrid up from 7th. £594m up from £487m. I assume that includes all the prize money and tv money from playing in every game possible last season.
