If there were supposedly two players already in Southampton a few days ago, and Alcaraz was due in yesterday...do you think we are waiting to announce new signings until tomorrow to distract from the thrashing we are likely to take tonight?
Bet they are desperate to keep him away from SMS to see this especially when the fans turn on NJ
He may well get back on the plane back home

I wonder what positions the other two might be in? We have been linked with central defenders, right backs and right wingers. No mention of back up for Lavia which is still one area where we are most short

Wouldn’t be unrealistic to say Lavia won’t be here very long. It’s important that we not only secure cover / competition for him this window, but also a succession plan.

Brighton lost Bissouma and already had Caicedo ready waiting in the wings.

Lavia is so important to us not only for what he brings to the team, but for the freedom he allows others due to his presence. He makes us a far better team. I would be astonished if we don't bring in another player that can play his role this window. When Romeu was absent we struggled, when Lavia has been absent we've struggled. Crazy that we keep leaving ourselves in this situation having only one player in that position.

Plus we will have a job on our hands to keep hold of him this summer

We have to understand SR model is to find, develop and sell players like Lavia but at a massive premium so we must expect Lavia to be sold for £40-50m this summer. Like Brentford, the art is replacing these youngsters is the real art
Absolutely, but it is about finding a balance. Of we could get another season out if Lavia and then still sell him for £50m then it is a no brainer.

Don’t want KWP to go but if he does it can wait until Summer surely?

Livramento isn’t even back yet.

The source is Talksport so I won’t get too worried at this point.

I dont think talksport said anything was actually happening, just that there is interest. Which is probably true if he is stalling on a new deal. He has 2.5 years left so if he does leave, it'll likely be in the summer.

He's also such a pro he won't cause a fuss this month. Zero reason to sell him this window.

Assuming this is true, what position do we think the additional 2 players would be. So far we have wide player (orsic), centre mid (Alcaraz) and striker (assumed).

I think one will be a CB, but not sure on the other. Maybe a defensive mid or wing back?

Unless Alcaraz can play the Lavia role then definitely a DM who can dictate tempo

Still don’t think we should be going for a centre back. Yesterday we start with a back 4 and shock we play well again. Really don’t think we need a centre back, I guess ABK injury has some bearing on that. If he’s out for the season then it’s a different story

Key areas we/the club seem to want:

-PL experience
-CM depth
- fullback/wingback depth

The chat above goes to show how dissapointing Maitland Niles has been, doesn't it. He was bought in to provide the above but hasn't.

Getting someone in to compete with Lavia or a succession plan is difficult isn't it. Players who can dosctate the tempo of PL games don't want to sit on the bench for Southampton, generally.
