The main concern with Stewart with me at the moment is Brentford. Not normally a big pull but if Toney was seriously injured yesterday I think they may go for him. To them £10m would be a small gamble to cover goal scoring as they'd easily recoup the money, and Stewart would have his pay rise
Remember Stewarts old man had to pay his transfer fee to get him a move a few year back. When we signed him he was quite unknown (I think hands up I'm not the best at keeping track of anything outside SAFC). He is now scoring regularly in championship and without his injury would likely be top scorer easily and in a team pushing if not sat in the top two. He seems happy enough but is probably aware that he could be playing in the Premier league soon and at 26 how long can he wait. Imo the club should be getting him tied in to a 4 year contract on the understanding come summer we will accept x (say 20 million) but if that doesn't come and he gives us another season and we don't get promoted we will accept y (say 12-15 million). We could do the playoffs imo if we keep Stewart and Amad.
I hope Ross realises that he's on to a good thing here. Fans love him, scoring regularly etc, and I hope he's aware of the long list of former SAFC players who thought the grass was greener and saw the prospect of big bucks only to fail miserably and wish they'd stayed.
Think its' a sensible plan, but unfortunately his agent will be in his ear and in the ears of the CEOs of Burnley and Boro saying how they could get this unbelievable prospect for a mere £30k a week - way above what our model can pay. So, the question is - what's more important? the player or the wag structure?
Brentford will never be half the club we are ... ... if Stewart's dream is to play there I'd ship him out tomorrow.
Depends how much outside the wage structure he is wanting. Someone made a great point on here the other day, I assume the position we are in league wise is a season or two further forward than the club expected. Does that mean they can go slightly above the wage structure planned for this season to keep us there?
I can't see Stewart wanting outside the wage structure by a massive amount. Going up and coming down financially will be worth it to the club. **** for fans bit worth it money wise with parachute payments.
I'm not suggesting that he'd prefer Brentford over us, but if he moved there now and proved himself in the Premier then he'd have loads of options
