I think they'll sign Viktor Gyokeres the Coventry City striker ...

... Simms isn't as experienced or ready for the PL imo.

I'm expecting them to come in for Stewart to be honest.

They could . But they might go higher too. Their owner never gets sick of spending money, and if the FFP regs permit it ( they will apply in Everton's case!) you never know with them.

The model Brentford use is great to a point and is exactly what we should be doing to stabilise the club but I think the trick to it all is not just selling for a price but knowing that you have good replacements lined up. On the flipside the management team also have decisions to make on the point where you stop being a "selling" team and start to build something stronger because Brentford will only go for so long before they start to slide backwards that could well be where the sustainable project may falter which will inevitably be us if the management team are not careful in recognising these things

Good point mate. It's interesting. When does a "selling" club....i.e. cashing in on its' top players and hoping the recruitment is good enough...become a " won't sell,as we're looking at going for higher honours " club.

I think in the current climate of the so called "top clubs" in the prem, if they want a player that badly they will probably pay the going rate and the selling club will try and get as much out of them as possible

There seems to be a tipping point for clubs like Brentford.

They do well on the back of team spirit, relatively unknown players and adrenaline resulting in promotion to the PL. That's when the problems start.

The squad is 'strengthened' with new players on PL wages which mean the others want more money. Any who are 'too good' are poached by the top clubs and replaced by others who expect PL money. The team spirit suffers and players who'd won promotion find themselves in the reserves. The supporters moan, the momentum goes and relegation often follows.

I'm hoping KLD's forward planning has taken this into account and found solutions.

I agree. I suppose the real issue is....whilst I know that almost everyone is a seller and there are only a handful of non-selling clubs.....when does a selling club become a non selling club?

Another great post. I can only think that the ultimate objective for us in the KLD regime is to consolidate a mid-table PL position, hold our own,not get sucked into the bottom 3,go for a cup trophy, but know we will never challenge for the top 6?

Is there such a thing as a 'non' selling club? The bigger and better you become that pool of teams you may lose players to becomes smaller. You have teams like P'boro who have to sell/buy with a net income of £4 million to survive every season(this was info the owner put out). For me if we sell players because its a good price or a decent profit then that is a worry but if we genuinely believe its a good deal for the club and the team than I can live with that. Selling Stewart for 5 million to anither championship club definitely falls into the former of those 2

Considering the only thing that's new in that tweet is the Jerry Yates link - I like him. He's a really good striker.

Brentford are the ones I am most worried about, especially if Toney gets suspended.

Be unacceptable to sell to championship club. Don't see it but just putting it out there.

If he was refusing to sign a new contract, I wouldn't mind where he went, as I just want him to go to whichever club will offer us the most money for him.

But if he's wanting to sign a contract at a wage level that another championship club that don't have parachute payments are able to offer, it does taste a bit bitter.
