Makes sense to get some of these lads out on loan for their development. Getting Hume and Huggins half a season of football under their belt would be beneficial for us longer term. I think we can utilize Gooch, O'Nien, Cirkin and Alese as full back options for the rest of the season.

I think Matete should be starting games at this point, never mind being on the bench more. I think he offers a side to the game which Neil, Ba and Michut can't offer. That being said, if we're not going to play him anyway, then 20 games starting at the top half of league one, might give him the consistency to compete more for us next season.

We need to take a long term view on these players, they're assets.
Really surprised Matete hasn't had a look in tbh.

Those that actually understand the game appreciate what an important player Alex Pritchard is for us. The link up he has with Stewart was a major reason we were promoted as they both get the best out of each other.

Pritchard is a popular one for the twisty gits, but so often is the man before the assist if hes not scoring or creating himself.

Same argument for Henderson. Underrated, loads of hard work in the middle allowing the flair players freedom.

Interesting that Buckley and Dack both playing against us today after being out of favour and linked with us earlier this season

Gakpo to Liverpool for £37m. Looks like an absolute steal at that price.

9 goals and 12 assists in 14 league games so far this season. Had an excellent World Cup too.

Seems like he's ready for the big stage. Surprised Liverpool is the choice though, he'll be competing with Luiz Diaz for a place.

Man Utd were linked with him withTen Haag being there.
Agree he looks a class act but Dutch league has been hit and miss when transferring to the Premier League over the years

Definitely agree with what you say on the Dutch League but I think the level of scouting has gone up a notch since then.

He's not just looking good in the Dutch League either though, he's tearing it apart. He's a dual threat. 21 goals or Assists in 14 games. The next best has 12.

Maybe Antony is the best player to compare his output against. Different players obviously but both played on the wing in Eredivisie. Antony has started ok at Man Utd. 3 goals in 6 games in the league so far.

Antony played 57 games for Ajax in 2 years. 18 goals, 14 assists. 32 goal contributions in 57 games.

Gakpo has played 41 games in the last 18 months for PSV. 21 goals and 25 assists. 46 goal contributions in 41 games.

The lad is also 6'4 and fast. He appears to be a bit of a monster.

Yeah, the last bit might be his biggest strength for the PL in terms of standing up to it. He definitely looks a player and I don't see any reason for it not to work out. If its £37m then I'd buy him.

I just think back Mateja Kezamn and others like Altidore, Ryan Babel etc who ripped up the Dutch League but were ****e in the PL.

Gakpo is a player though. 100%

Afonso Alves and Vincent Janssen both make the top 3 I reckon!

%wise it's a high risk/high reward League, they knock out some of the best players playing the best football but for some reason a lot fail when they leave the league. Van Hoijdonk going on strike at Forest was a funny one a few year ago.

Just thinking about loans and players being recalled. Patto must think about the covid outbreak and the fact he grabbed his chance with both hands.

Last January he was temporarily recalled to see us through covid and a year later and he is our number 1 in the championship and being capable for that level. There are areas for improvement but he is young and has come on so much in the last 12 months!
I've been slightly critical of Patti on another thread but can't argue with that.

Always dangerous buying a player on the back of a good performance in a tournament

No big club buys a player off the back of a good tournament anymore though. This lad has been on the radar for a few years and appears to have been head and shoulders above everyone else in the Dutch League for the last 18 months. The World cup is just the cherry on the cake.
