Because that's what studies have shown that, generally, Trump's base supporters are white males with no college education. Not that they're incapable of gaining any.
Studies also show that, generally, the more further education a US citizen gets, the LESS likely they are to be a Trump supporter. (though as I said, many well paid professionals do count themselves as part of the MAGA crowd)
And yes, people with higher education do tend to have higher paying jobs

Personally I do think that Trump supporters are politically ignorant, and don't vote for him based on and rational criteria

This doesn't mean he has done anything illegal. We had a billionaire here a few years back who openly admitted to paying as little tax as possible, but all within allowable limits. From memory, one year he paid $12.50. I don't blame him, if I could get by paying less tax I would, wouldn't you? It probably cost Trump and Packer a quid in accountants' fees but, hey, they could afford it and in the end it saved them millions.

People ***do*** vote along social lines
Friends dress alike, share similar views, vote alike, and if religious, they go to the same church
And people also generally vote the same way their parents did and if religious, share the same faith.
Of course there is social mobility and people's opinions can change. My own father was a coal miner and staunch Labour supporter. He got out of the mines and went to work for an engineering company and along the way changed his political views.
But that's the exception; and you ***can*** make broad generalizations with regard to large demographics.
But go ahead and eschew stuff like facts and evidence, your ignorant opinions are probably way more sound.

I wonder why Trump has fought tooth and nail for years to prevent his tax returns ever being made public ?
You are of course right, he's innocent until proven guilty, though it has to be said he secured large loans from banks that he personally guaranteed over the years too.
His company, the Trump Organization, was recently sued for $250 million for tax fraud, by the Manhattan DA. That doesn't help convince you that Trump's been paying his fair share, does it ?
Also, I'm not sure the banks would've loaned hundreds of millions to a man who lost nearly $10 million a year.
There are two main reasons a billionaire would pay so little tax.
1. Tax avoidance. While this is not illegal it could leave a sickening taste in the throat of honest hard working people who earn their money and pay their appropriate dues in taxes. Mr Trump could, and probably does, have very clever accountants who know all the legal ways to help their clients avoid paying tax. On a positive note who would want to pay more tax than they legally have to?
2. Tax evasion. This is not legal and can involve all sorts of methods to place your money out of reach or visibility of the IRS.
It's also possible that in order to pay such low taxes you could be involved in a bit of both 1&2. Either way it's difficult to see how, if Mr Trump did in fact pay such low taxes, it would be popular with voters. Perhaps his hard core supporters could however see it as just another example of how he challenges the establishment and wins!
Alternatively his wealth could actually be based on falsehoods and illusion and about as stable and substantial as crypto currency.
The full report when published may enable clever people to come to some conclusion about why he doesn't pay as much tax as you would imagine he should.
