Some went ahead didn’t they? If I remember right the council were not supportive of AP’s plans as they wanted it somewhere else.

I can't remember exactly what happened, but as far as I can remember, Manchester was the only super-casino that was still going ahead and after years of objections it finally got abandoned.

I was to young to be interested back then, but why was it all pulled?
The council said they had plans of their own on a development called The Boom. Neither came to fruition. I believe the shelving of Pearson's plans for a hotel behind the South Stand, with or without the casino, made him realise he couldn't afford to finance the club much further and that is when he started looking to sell. I know he was furious when his plans were shelved.

Something really needs to happen around the whole stadium area, the fact we are 20yrs down the line and nothing has is just flat out embarrassing.

Just remind me, do we own our Training Ground at Millhouse Woods Lane in Cott? Lovely secluded training pitches, surely it needs keeping and only needs a new building. Development around the stadium should be for other purposes apart from maybe one full size training pitch in West Park for academy games etc?

Imo nothing around the stadium is big enough for anything like that, unless you include Walton Street and we all know that has as much chance as I do of knitting fog

Earlier this year the hospital's trust and city council published plans for a fairly radical plan to redevelop anlaby road. From town right up to the train lines next to Jewsons. If that's to happen and there really is a desire to redevelop the area then it seems the perfect opportunity to push for a training ground and academy.

I'd say there's housing right up to Albert ave that wouldn't be missed if it was to be cleared.

You can even look at the other side of anlaby road. Them flats and the surrounding space can all go too. Ship the residents to cottingham <whistle>

Wasn't it the Lib dems that objected to the Stadium, but ended up being named on the obelisk because they were in power when it opened?

Wonder if the Cottingham site could be a money spinner if sold for housing and they could build another elsewhere (non residential) with the profit?
