Oh dear. Hope we can negotiate a way out of this or we’re going to have to rely on the current squad to keep us up.

On that basis we’re relegated then. This bloated squad isn’t good enough.

Back to the football consequences of this rather than the the money aspect.

Whatever Dalman says about being in discussion with the powers that be about this embargo, I can't see it resolved for the January window - that obviously means we go with what we've got for the second half of the season.

Etete and Robbo are the future up front with maybe Zak Davies for pace. Philogene is another contender. He's tricky and has pace but always looks a bit fragile to me. That leaves Ojo, Whyte and Watters as options - not a great proposition. Does Hudson chuck "wonderkid" Ollie tanner in there as sub and bring him on that way?

Midfield is still problematic. Colwill looked heavy and uncomfortable in his "enlarged" body when he came on yesterday, and will need time to come to grips with it. The usual choices will probably feature on a regular basis - that means Wintle and Ralls will be in there but where's the creation? Don't mention the "Sawyers" word on that front, but what's happened to Tom Sang? I'd like to see O'Dowda given a chance on the left side of midfield - he can go forwards and back to defend when necessary.

At the back it seems like an entrenched back 4 system. Happy with Romeo/Ng/Kipre but maybe Bagan should come into the frame as much as Knouknou is exciting going upfield on his runs, he gives me the ****s defensively. Do we, should we (can we?) bring back McGuinness, and what has happened to Denham as cover? So many unanswered questions behind the scenes at the club that it feels as supporters we're being shut out of the loop.

There will be injuries and suspensions. McGuinness has done well at the Wendies. Need to bring him back as Hudson doesn't appear to rate Simpson and Nelson? I prefer McGuinness.

    Huds talking to WoL....

"Cardiff face Coventry City on Thursday before the transfer window opens. However, as things stand they will be unable to do much business due to them being under a transfer embargo.

In a small, but potentially significant, update after the match, Hudson said talks are continuing and the prospect of having the ban lifted is "looking positive".

"We are in constant dialogue," Hudson said of the embargo. "They are in conversations at the moment and there is a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes.

"We will have to see what happens, but fingers crossed, it's looking positive."

Could just be talk to try keep fans positive but hopefully not....

I've delved in as much as I can about this transfer embargo imposed by FIFA and I'm getting the vibes whatever happens in the immediate future regarding getting it temporarily lifted, this could all end in a financial compromise with Nantes. If the Swiss Federal Court sends the case back to CAS for reconsideration, which apparently they are quite likely to do, the embargo would have to be lifted. The timing won't help with this January window but the ongoing situation would put Nantes in a difficult situation as they thought they were home and dry.

Even if CAS reaffirms it's earlier decision and the embargo is re-imposed by FIFA, Tan would then sue Nantes over the transaction through the French Courts under the French legal system which is much more stringent and very specific on contract law. Nantes who are extremely strapped for cash would not want to chance the outcome and a compromise out of court settlement is likely. This would probably comprise a much reduced "player compensation fee" (not transfer fee!) which would include a contribution toward their incurred legal costs to date.

Whatever settlement figure might be agreed, Tan would then pursue others involved to recover that loss (football agents, aircraft owner and operator, insurance brokers etc). He might have to take a small personal hit but he wont let it go.

Whatever the eventual outcome of that subsequent action, the immediate accounting bonus would be the approx £22M provision set aside on the balance sheet would be wiped out and replaced by the actual settlement cost. The club's balance sheet would improve by possibly as much as £15M. It's not actual cash but it would be a huge boost toward the sustainability requirements. At the moment they appear to be in limbo as a result of the pandemic, but will surely be reimposed shortly in some form.

Apologies for posting this on a matchday, but had a lot of spare time on my hands over Christmas. :emoticon-0126-nerd::emoticon-0126-nerd:

    All good info Sparkey.

Morally the whole episode leaves such a bitter taste in the mouth but you can't blame VT or the club for pursuing each legal avenue open to them. Any club or business would do exactly the same, despite the harping from many loud mouthed opposition fans who believe they can bleat and take the moral high ground without understanding all the facts. :emoticon-0148-yes:

.......and if I was being even more cynical, I'd say removing the embargo makes it easier to attract a new manager?
