Careful, you'll be accused of being a 'leftie'

Actually, objections to Fifa giving Qater the world Cup is just a consequence liberal capitalist democratic values - and for most of us; Qatar in November is jarring (especially on the back of Russia and how well that aged... )

Could be a statement if we get to the final 90th min anyone not carded puts on an armband? If not going to extra time that is.

Maybe wait to the 90th and both teams do it?

    That would be a statement.

Have the ref card 16/17 players on ceremony in the 90th of the final.

    That would be good.

Only other team that would probs agree to it is Wales though.

And they'll only get there if they drop that Bale lad and get Jason Price out of retlrement. Pronto. <laugh>

Someone showing a lot more moral integrity and courage than all our virtue signalling multi millionaire footballers.-

“At the start of this century, the international scoring record against which all others were judged - it now resides with Cristiano Ronaldo - belonged to Ali Daei of Iran: 149 games, 109 goals.

He was not at his country's first match of the World Cup against England on Monday, however, because Daei spoke out after 22-year-old Mahsa Amini died in the custody of Iran's morality police in September, and had his passport confiscated.

When the paperwork was returned, he turned down FIFA's invitation to be their guest. 'I prefer to express my sympathy with all the families who lost loved ones over these days,' he said. 'Instead of repression, violence and arresting the Iranian people, solve their problems.'

The Iranian Football Federation have since felt moved to deny that Daei faces a death sentence. Now that's a man.”

Giving publicity to an issue isn't virtue signalling.

Those who deride it as such never make any significant gesture opposing the relevant issue either. They just have an ideological or financial vested interest to oppose the promotion of it.

Though I absolutely applaud this Iranian man as a hero of his country.

Not long in from a 10 hour backshift.

Putting the Bananas,Monkeys and online Racists from the 4 corners of the globe to one side for a split second...How did we do? I take it the Football wasn't very noteworthy then?

    F.F.S give it a rest!!!

Surely you know by now we only talk about football and how **** we are on here when we lose?

We won, scored 6 so it's squabbling about everything else tonight.

Ex-city larker should have had a pen and got an assist from centrehalf, though he shouldn't even be in the squad according to some on here.

And the Manager; Negative. Just not ****ing Mike Bassett enough. Go 442 and launch it. Never gonna work pissing around at the back...

Despite having the best tournament record since Sir Alf, only manager to score 6 at a major finals ever - he's done it twice....

But he's clueless and negative so best not go there...

No real discussion to be had....

    You could try puns?

It says more about someone who thinks a stance against a homophobic, murderous regime is virtue signalling. The FA completely bottled it and as Amin said have just let corruption win.

Being in a position where you get booked for wearing a rainbow armband is ****ing embarrassing and sums up the state of the establishment that bought the rights to the greatest sporting event on the planet. Respect is earnt and they’ve done nothing to warrant it and it’s a real shame for their national team and fans of the beautiful game.

I hear that FIFA has implied that anyone wearing this arm banned may be sent off. But even if it had been a yellow, and then Kane was booked for something and was sent off, IMO that is unfair and if because of that, maybe end up not qualifying, then I think the FA would then be vilified also. I don't blame the FA in this, it is all about FIFA and their double standards. Their president said in his opening speech, "Today I feel Gay" then the next day is threatening to punish players who don the armband. Talk about hypocrisy.

If all the teams agreed to wear the armband then fine, wear it and see what FIFA would do then. But to have 4 or 5 teams being punished, when others don't, you are creating more of a farce of a tournament than it already is IMO.

Get to the final. Be 2 goals up in the 90th minute. Get the armbands on.

Let fifa and the referee explain 11 yellows and multiple procedural second yellow sendings off in the 90th min.

Take the trophy off the FIFA and Qatar dignitaries anyway.

    **** em.

Let them explain it to the world.

    F**king Absolutely!

*dont always agree but a like for this post wasn't enough - needed a bump so I'm taking the liberty. Please accept I'm not 'virtue signalling' by doing so....

Though I'm sure there'll be accusations chucked from some folk on here who bought dodgy mod gear to wear on Kempton in the 80s - Probably off of a starting out Lambretta enthusiast ironically. :bandit:

Why the **** on God's Earth would you refer to someone as ' a gay'?

Are you David Walliams in disguise?

Why the **** on a reasonable Gods Earth would anyone even like that post?

The Mail paid someone to write an opinion column in line with their editorial guidelines.

They know it will sell with a lot of folk who prefer their pork cured, long-soaking in their own brine, trying to blame everyone else for shortcomings and perceived loss of hegemony on anything and anyone but their own ****ing generational failures.

But of course it's always someone else's fault.

A conservative ideology based on personal responsibility...

But that reponsibility is never ones own....

As long as I'm alright Jack...

This Wootton chancer/cancer is a columnist.

Never been anything of note more than a columnist.

He's a ****ing nobody in comparison to any current England player, coach or manager - or anything like a campaigner for basic humanities like Tatchell.

Wootton is a skilled ****house of a writer who's taken a paycheck from a publication, Never risked his own security to help to provide a basic right to others.

It's actually quite offensive to the completely independent LGBT and Iranian struggles that he'd even try to make those associations to taking the knee, which is a completely separate statement.

But you probably know this and are playing the same game as he is.

Either that or you just don't get it.

    Hence the need for rainbows.

At least as far as I can see.

*yes I know I've replied to this post twice before ****ing laughing boy points it out, but I just don't get what you're trying to justify, apart from some sort of insular tribalistic bias, which holds anyone but yourself to some kind of subjective standard.

I’m not questioning their right to take a knee. I generally agree with the sentiment. I just find the hypocrisy nauseating. Kneeling for persecuted minorities in a stadium built by migrant workers treated little better than slaves. Oh, and the flip-flopping on the armband as soon as FIFA said they’ll be a booking.

    Everything about it stinks.

I am referring to how Wootton described himself. And Infantino, on that day when he was also disabled, African and a migrant worker. Are you dashing off emails asking them why they would use that word? You are tying yourself in knots here.

It was Virgil Van Dijk’s idea originally. But he said if it impacted on the team they would have to abandon the idea.
Why should the FA be the only ones to go through with these things? Is it like climate. Change where we have to shut things down and suffer whilst the rest of the world carries on regardless?

Is it time for a breakaway from FIFA. Surely someone could propose it. It’s not like when the Euros and other continents hold their own tournaments they arnt successful.
Nothing lasts forever and FIFAs controlling attitude and bad decisions are now up for count.

The countries in UEFA should have said they wouldn’t go. A World Cup without European countries would be nothing.
But the big football nations of Europe are outvoted by tinpot little countries who will never get to a World Cup finals.

Yeah I did get this from the Netflix FIFA 4 parter,
When countries are railroaded into a destination out of their hands it’s difficult to say we are not going as it’s years ago and as we know Qaters bid was full of mistruths about how it would all look. The time for a stance should of been straight after the vote and onwards especially as it should of been questioned from the off.
