In not sure why it's so surprising to me that they've banned alcohol on the eve of the tournament. They clearly had no intention of allowing it in Stadiums, but they've held back until so late in the day so that nothing can be done about it.

I've a feeling that everyone associated with this tournament is going to look back on it with regret, maybe even FIFA.

I'm really struggling to find my way into this tournament. I'll probably watch England and the odd evening game but I'm just struggling to be interested.

Nice sentiment, but the time that may have been possible was 8-12 years ago. Unfortunately there was enough momemtum then. I understand the closer it gets the more into focus it becomes, but really there could have been direct action back then which would have changed things. Those in power across the world failed to grasp the nettle.

I'll watch it as it is football. But that's about it. As many have said before, the only reason I'm happy about this is the break helps Sunderland players get back to fitness.

I seem to remember there was a furore when the initial votes were cast and the revelation that Sepp had addressed the voters and reminded them of the witch hunt the English media had been pursuing against him and other fifa officials(which turned out to be almost 100 percent true) but the wider footballing world still voted for Qatar because of pressure placed on them by Blatter and his crooked cronies. The investigation conveniently took to long to conclude and so the decision to allow Qatar to continue could not be changed or so we were told. In effect a corrupt few people inside fifa ⚽️ agreed the stupidest world Cup in history on a flimsy premise of saying all continents should have the chance to host and not admitting to the millions they took in back handers

For me I’ll watch England ,Wales the Brazils and maybe better euro teams , but even then won’t be bothered if I miss them through doing/going something else. Watch Qatar play ? Hardly going to be a demonstration of world class qualityfootball

I may be wrong here but I’m sure most of the people involved at fifa at the time of it being awarded are now either not working there or have a criminal conviction against their name

That is correct. Loads of them have either been investigated, or are being investigated. Corruption isnt just associated with this world cup though. The last one was bad. Voting for 2 world cups at once allowed vote swapping to be rife. David Yallop wrote a book called How they stole the game in 1999, way before Qatar won a bid. Andrew Jennings came after, with another book, again way before 2010. Both of these are British journalists by the way.

In reality you can go way back. The 2015 case into FIFA corruption found some officials were implicated over a 20 year + period.

It is suggested the award of the world cup in Germany in 2006 involved bribery and corruption. I dont know how far it goes back, but it doesnt look great. Qatar are not the first to get a world cup by hook or crook though, but it has caused the most outtrage.

More stories coming out prior to this sham world cup. Seems that the Qatari royal family want their moment in the spotlight to be as long as possible

EXCLUSIVE: FIFA sent integrity alert about Qatar days before World Cup https://mol.im/a/11445381 via https://dailym.ai/android

Monday to Friday, 9x5ers trying to get out of work to watch World Cup games at daft times during the week is like doing shift work and having a season ticket. Pain in the arse isn't it?

I'm just not going to bother I think. Precisely zero excitement or anticipation. It's not a real World Cup. Fake venues, fake fans. There'll be more than a few very questionable decisions and results as well and FIFA won't investigate due to all the brown envelopes blocking the way. Fake tournament.

It would be brilliant if absolutely nobody watched the opening game. That would send a message.
