In the past thirty years he's probably been our second best keeper (I'm ignoring Pope as he's still fresh). He's served us well and came with no fanfare. I don't get why any fans call him out, he did very well for us and is allowed to leave on his own terms.
1. He was under contract. 2. Competition for places is part of any football club. 3. He knew he was only signing to keep Ronaldo happy on the bench. 4. His agent made it clear he wasn't happy the minute we were linked with Pope. 5. Why we agreed to the deal is baffling after their behaviour with Henderson and Lingaard.
Agree. I think he should have stayed to fight for his place. But at his age and if I was him I would have take the chance possibly.
I must admitting to rating him, at least for most of the time he was with us. I was disappointed that he chose to get out so quickly when there was a genuine threat to his place. He threw in the towel - possibly was told that Pope would be given a run of games at the season start. But to go to Man U to clearly be an understudy reduces my respect for the man. He’ll know he’s crapped in his nest and will want an exit strategy (unless the extra money is enough motivation for him to stay the season).
He'll not be getting any extra money. He's under contract to us not them, we pay his wahes and they pay us the cost. We might have a loan fee, I know we have a recall option being discussed in Jan and they have a purchase clause for £6m to make it permanent to the end of the season.
Fans lack empathy and if it was them they'd go to another club they just think they wouldn't. It just happened to be man united if it wasn't he'd have probably stayed a while longer.
At the time he signed for them De Gea was having an absolute mare. Wasn't that wild a gamble to think he'd get a first team chance at some point. No hard feelings from me towards him. Served us well while he was here. This is how it will go from now on. As we sign better and better players then some players will feel they have more chance of first team football elsewhere. They won't always be right, but it will happen more and more.
Being in the league position we are in makes it much more attractive for players to come. So why not go for the lad in January. https://www.geordiebootboys.com/opi...an-become-a-reality-for-newcastle-in-january/
We have dodged a fair few bullet's so far Leno Cornet Lindgard Dennis Costa & Paqueta - jurys out so far due to injuries etc Van D Beek & Ali - i,m sure these were a joke and we wernt serious Anyway, our recruitment team seem to be doing a good job so far, doesnt matter if a player costs 2, 20 or 60M I,ll trust them to have done their homework Our main problem now, is getting rid of players for a fee
It doesn't matter who we buy. The only thing wrong with those players you've listed is that they haven't been 'Eddied'.
Another young player set to be signed apparently. 19 yo Argentinian defensive midfielder Maximo Perrone from Velez Sarsfield: https://onefootball.com/editorial/36195132?language=en Newcastle player links - Christian Bassedas is director of football and Jonas Guttierez started his career there
