Reoccurring issue he just can't seem to shake, I think we should just write him off tbh. He's not going to do anything and will just end up leaving on a free which will be such a shame as he was/is frighteningly talented but just didn't have the mental side

Was his contract big enough to set him up for life and maybe the reason he lost his drive? He seems really happy to flaunt his brand new Range Rover and top designer clothes on social media so must be on a good wedge that can sustain that lifestyle forever?

Zero chance we're paying him enough to set him up for the next 5 years let alone life.

Not for life no, but it's a decent wack for a lad his age

3.5 year deal on (estimated) £7.5k a week plus bonuses (can't imagine he's had too many though) plus lets say £100k signing on fee. There's the thick end of £1.5m. Tax man takes his cut leaving him with 8/900k plus any sponsorship he gets etc. If this is invested well (also doubtful when you take into account most of his advisors/family/friends are known to be bad influences) then a young player can pretty much live a decent life on it.

Except sadly none of them will as most will burn the majority of it on shiny toys and when the money's no longer coming in, will turn to drink or drug. The big if as you say is if it's invested well, and it never is. It's why there's so many bankrupt former players.

I know, it is such a shame. I often think about Windass going bust etc. He was a good player and had a really long career. His last contract with us (when he was 40) was on £10k a week, plus £2k a game, plus £2k a goal. How on earth someone doesn't think to invest some of that money at the time is beyond me.

These days £1 million although it sounds great to us won’t give you that great a life. Until recently you were lucky to get 2% which would give you £20,000:a year. Now you can get 5%, £50,000. That is assuming you don’t touch the capital.Of course you might get more by investing in more speculative ventures but equally you could lose money. I can’t se a young lad not touching the capital. I know I wouldn’t have.

Speaking of injuries, Twine, who we were quite disappointed not to have landed, has only played 20 mins for Burnley since signing – his injury is also seemingly unspecified.

Also, Dervisoglu has only played for 2 minutes for Burnley since his move on Deadline Day. Interesting that Burnley fans have been crying out for firepower, drawing too many games, yet he seems to be constantly overlooked. Unsurprisingly, suggestions that Kompany doesn’t rate him persist.

James Scott was signed as a 20 year old while we were keeping the purse strings tight. There's no way he's on more than about five or six grand a week. Our best paid player at the time was Mallik Wilks and Scott wouldn't have been anywhere near that.
