Connelly definitely offers us something valuable that no one else in the squad does. I think it just comes down to whether you consider his ongoing injury just a bit of bad luck that won't be repeated or a sign of weakness in his body. Personally with it being a broken toe I can't see that it's any reflection on his robustness, seems more of a freak thing.
I'm pretty sure in Connelly's arrival interview he admitted he had attitude issues in the past but he likes working with Rosenior.
He showed us what our front line wasn’t offering, but it was fundamentals of a good striker at this level. People are acting like it’s something unique and there will be no one else out there like that.
Baz seems to be suggesting he's likely to stay. Fine by me if it is just a freak injury but if his head has gone again then we'd be better off sending him back. Just gotta trust the club are in a position to make the right call I suppose.
It's not necessarily that no one else out there can do it, but it's always a gamble when you sign a player. We could get another Ebiowei. Why take the risk if we have a player who has shown he can do it, and seems to enjoy it here and fit in well with everyone? Assuming we can always just roll the dice on the transfer market and everything will work out great is a bit naiive I think.
Has he shown he can do it though? Looked promising in a handful of games but his career has been chequered by spells out and uninspiring performances over the last couple of years. I agree all players are a risk though and those best placed to make the judgment on it are the ones closer to the situation than you or I.
He’s played 5 games it’s more naive to think based on that he won’t do exactly what he’s done everywhere else in his senior career. Nothing special at all, I’d be seriously worried in our recruitment team if they can’t find a quick striker who runs the channels.
He look alright when he played but he’s basically played a month’s worth of football for us for what is a half-season loan. Yeah, he might be unlucky with the broken foot/toe but given his previous attitude problems which he’s had at most clubs, his injury and the fact we’ll have to pay a fee if we sign him permanently, I think there’s better options when the transfer window opens. Nowt against him but I’d be shocked if the recruitment team and management aren’t already identifying alternative targets who can do a similar role.
I think they can find those types of forwards, but could we afford them? It will all come down to money.
It's money, it's a question of how early we can get them in, how fit they are, whether they're as good in our team as we hope. There's so many variables with bringing players in. I think sometimes people go into Football Manager mode and think you can just get rid of your whole team and buy however many players you want and they'll always be better than the players you got rid of and it'll all go smoothly, but it rarely works out that way in reality.
