Yesterday we had 10 of 11 starters were in last season squad. Against a newly relegated premier league squad that was likely a big ask. Ballard cant get back soon enough for me - a proven championship player. We all know Stewart is more than good enough too.

I like the look of Ba, Michut and Bennette but I do wonder how many games they can play this season. I think we may need a bit of shot in the arm in January with some more championship ready players. Yesterday I thought shone a light on what we dont have, for the first time more so than what we do have. One or two experienced heads in the second half of the season could prove vital. Not 30 plus journeymen. Solid championship players around 26 or 27. Might cost a bit, but also might make a real difference. Alan Browne at Preston and Lewis Baker at Stoke are examples of what I talking about. Lots of others.
Totally agree with this, I love the young talent that we have but we do need proven Championship talent - not players past their prime but like you said players 26/27 yrs old.

I said before the game yesterday that 7 points from the 5 games that we had leading up to the world cup so hoping 7 from the next 4 and that would represent a good start to the season.

Going into January we need a Striker, CDM and possibly a RB (depends how Huggins develops)

For me only one of their goals was a great shot...

The rest was v poor defending, due in part in not being big/tall and strong enough.

Missed the game yesterday as I'm stateside (and left my frigging ph0ne in the car at the frigging airport) and just watched the goals back.

2 excellent goals by us, the overload for the 1st showed the intent we started the game with. Dan Neil's finish was superb.

Their 1st goal summed up our problems - 2 short lads being out jumped. Their 2nd was very poor by Patto and the 3rd, whilst a good strike could have been prevented had Hume got closer to his man

Our manager was poor yday. First time he has been widely criticized I think.

Impressed with Kompany. Very astute.
Big Big difference as Kompany had a pre season and put his squad together for the season starting , Mowbray parachuted in and has had a whole catalogue of injuries to contend with so I think the comparison is very unfair .

Don’t know whether it’s been mentioned and he didn’t do it on purpose but that needless delay after the second took the sting out of our game and gave them a breather. It was ridiculous

What was the referee trying to achieve by stopping the game?

Whatever was happening in the stands it wasn't affecting the game so why stop it?

Were missiles hitting the pitch, was an announcement made, anything?

I think this policy to stop the game now to let the announcement go out on screens and mic

The break in play after our second had a hige influence on the game in my opinion.

We were flying at that point and all over them, it totally took the momentum out of us and allowed them to regroup up until that point they couldnt get near us after we were a different team

Two leagues between us last season and second half really showed that. Very impressed with them mind best side i’ve seen this season.

Still says a lot about the mindset of our players though being 2-0 up and can’t concentrate after a short break.

Think it was more giving them an opportunity to change what they were doing. They seemed to play a different shape then made the change at half time

Hope so mate. Have to be totally honest I am starting to look at the bottom of the table as opposed the top a few weeks back. Needs to be a swift flip in results. This league really is a beast and it's unforgiving.

Positive starts can evaporate extremely quickly.

This.

I'm glad everything is sorted. It's a open forum with the cracking people on it. The day we can't debate is the day we may as well pack up. Personally for me, going into a season with 2 strikers was lunacy. Having said that, I believe the club will have tried to get more but we'll never know. Lads just need to keep chipping in with goals and hopefully it's enough that we don't end up in trouble like when Grabbin and Vaughan and Maja left.

I've liked this because imo, and I said yesterday, Burnley were shell shocked by half time and we thought we'd won it by half time. Our heads dropped at 2-2, pretty sure I seen one of our players on his haunches. I don't want to see that, chest out and let them have it. Onto the next one.

Vincent Kompany:
"I hated everything about the first half, how we turned up, our intensity, our challenges. Everything starts with that. You can have had a bad day but the basics weren't there. The second half was everything I love, we were relentless.
"At half time you don't need to mess about [with your team talk] when your basics go like that. I can move as many magnets on a tactics board as I like, it's pointless if you don't do the basics right. I could have changed anyone at half-time today, I just wanted to get Benny on the pitch. I can go through the entire team, the second half they were different players. To be fair to the lads, we haven't really been in this situation before today - we've learned about each other.
“In all fairness, Sunderland did fantastic, they had a lot of injuries,
"They are going through a period where they have had to find solutions to difficult problems and they did ever so well. I think whatever the manager said before the game, I think it worked out much better than what we said and what we did. The point is that it was a tough game for us.
"I wasn't disappointed with the positions we were getting in during the first half, we just couldn't beat our direct opponent. Second half we did that. There are lessons for us: never give up and in the Championship, if you drop your levels you are bang average, simple as that.
"We had a large away support today and in that second half we had to get them going, you could feel it turn straight away. To be fair as well, I think Sunderland are dealing with a lot of personnel issues and I think when you are dealing with that, it's a lot harder to hold onto stuff as well. Our team did really well to push on."

When you look at that and then listen Mowbrays interviews, it’s like chalk and cheese. I struggle to see how TM motivates the team.

Personally I thought our heads dropped when they scored their first. Arses were twitching big style
