... and breaking news ... the rest of the world have alarm clocks too ... <doh>

I've stayed up all night to watch the Suoerbowl and Women's Olympic curling in my time ffs! ... this is far more significant!!!... perhaps not to you ... but you need to start accepting that you are in the minority <cheers>

I won't be watching

I've got no interest in joining in with the engineered mourning for a ultra wealthy person from the establishment, part of an institution that represents the very worst of the divide between rich and poor, the have and the have nots, and the idea that those with wealth, power and connections are afforded special privileges that are denied to everybody else. An institution that has overseen the rape, pillage and theft of people, land and assets not only from this country, but across the Empire and Commonwealth, where indigenous people have had their land, wealth and culture stolen for the Crown.

The whole debacle of this pomp and pageantry is designed to ensure that this deference to the elite continues, and that the serfs and plebs (us) are reminded of our place in society, that we are ruled over by an Ultra wealthy family from Germany, who decided to change their name to one that sounds more 'British' in order to try and fit in with the natives. The fact that we are expected to pay for the upkeep of this already wealthy institution, who let's not forget only acquired their wealth by theft from the people, whilst in this country people rely on food banks to survive and are struggling to pay for their basic subsistence, is perhaps one of the most galling aspects about it.

I also don't have a TV

According to Stats in 2021, 1.72bn people out of the 6bn people on the planet have access to a TV.

So even if all of those people decided to watch Queenie's send off, it would still be less than a 1/3 of the world population.

We're over 7bn now... So makes that even smaller.

I would suspect it will get great coverage in North America, Australasia, and former colonies. There will be marginal interest in Europe and almost none in East Asia, non Commonwealth Africa, or South America...


Different note, it's fascinating how different countries are changing currency with the change in the monarch.. naturally in the UK, Charles will be replacing the Queen. New Zealand is following suit and will be adding Charles to any currency that currently has the Queen.

Australia and Canada on the other hand say they'll be removing the Queen but aren't saying Charles is definitely going to be on new currency. Opinion polls in both those counties show that neither want to have Charles' head on their new money. It'll be interesting to see what they choose, if they stick with tradition, or go with something more locally relevant.

Haven't heard what the former colonies in the Caribbean are going with, or if they even have the Queen's head, but a lot of them are using this event to distance themselves from the monarchy that they consider their colonial oppressors.

Anyone else think all this is ****ing weird? Queueing 14 hours to catch a glimpse of an old lady’s coffin? Contrary to what people are saying about ‘paying respects’, the whole thing makes a mockery of it. Rather than let her family grieve in private, they parade her across the country like a travelling circus for onlookers to gawk at.

It’s ****ing bizarre. Whilst the political systems of the two countries are miles apart, the UK really isn’t any better than North Korea when it comes to Stockholm Syndrome and sycophancy over their respective heads of state.
