well it was pretty much a military dictatorship for most of the period the Commonwealth lasted .

That's what tends to happen with revolutions; one form of tyranny is replaced with another, the last often worse than the first.

Still, beheading the odd monarch, oligarch etc every now and then, keeps the bastards on their toes. France in 1789 and Russia in 1917 did the rest of Europe a favour imo, even if it didn't go so well for them after that.

I quite liked the fact we invited Charles 2 to come out of exile and be the new king only when he turned to Catholicism to invite a Dutch fella to come and evict and become our new king .
Did end up making July in Derry "interesting" though .

And now we have another Charles on the throne, and when he passes, if we still have monarchy we'll have King Billy...

Theyve mostly banned mobiles so social media bollocks hasn't had much of an impact I don't think.

You know for a fact i phones were allowed some Red Potato attention seeking Yank would film himself dabbing on the coffin or something

I don't dab. I'd hump it.

You’ll be tuning in just like Sucky, Red potato and Abe will be

guaranteed

Not a chance. Nothing to do with my view on the monarchy, I just find pomp and flair to be kind of boring and pointless, honestly, I wouldn't watch even if it was someone I admired a lot.

I also highly doubt half the world will tune in either. Sounds like royalist propaganda someone at the palace said to someone in the media.

You would have thought the royal family would have retired the name Charles by now. Nothing good comes from a Charles in Britain. Bring back the name Alfred, it isn't tainted.

Charles II is one of the most popular English kings.

I highly doubt it won't be more than just half the world watching ... either way it will undoubtedly be the most watched live event in World broadcasting history <cheers>

I've no doubt millions will watch, even overseas, but you overestimate the importance of Britain's monarchy to the rest of the world. Maybe in 1930's if they had global tv feeds. A correct statement might have been that the coverage will be available live for half of the world. A third of the world will be asleep during the funeral.
