It’s certainly an end of an era - which I have known all my life.
As a kid I loved the royals and remember cheering the Queen in Keynsham as she passed through on her silver jubilee in 1977. On the same occasion I was on the platform in Keynsham as the King George V steamed through.
In later teens and into my early adulthood I became more republican - times were hard and reading about the young royals partying and revelling made me very angry and questioned what they were about, whilst I was struggling to pay my mortgage. The term ‘socialite’ still makes me angry today.
A part of me still feels that way - when the ‘detached’ family members are still entitled to Civil List handouts so that can go and get pissed or buy big houses and cars.
Back to the Queen though - she was amazing in that she kept calm throughout everything that was going on around her. She MUST have had a personal opinion but kept it controlled and did what was best for the nation. No president would have done that.
God bless her - and God help Charles in trying to walk in her footsteps.

Charles is not his mother that’s for sure and is outspoken and quite woke and opinionated to a degree which I don’t particularly like.
He also has a distinct arrogance about him which the Queen could never be accused of
I warm to William & Kate far more than Charles, so this is also the end of an era for me as I am likely to be far less supportive of the incoming King than I was of HRH Elizabeth II

I actually don’t mind Charles.
I remember in the 1990s when the royals didn’t have to pay Income Tax - Charles refused his Civil List handout and volunteered tax on his Duchy of Cornwall estate. I won’t go as far as saying I actually LIKE him, but that was a forward-thinking gesture IMHO.
He was the only royal to do this at the time. The rest of them had their heads firmly in the trough.

he made a statement a few years back along the lines of " I am who I am now, when I am King i will be a completely different person"
He has used his "prince" title to good effect and set and used it to improve probably millions of lives! The weirdest thing was yesterday we went on our usual Thursday project [ hence nothearing till ALMOST 2100HRS. We actually chatted about Charles around 1645 [ had noted the ACCUWEATHER radar earlier ] and the 1715 rain started as we got back to doing a job, had taken a break! we Said much the same his outspoken ness and the things he had done and achieved, and was in the process of! We did comment as King he had stated he would be a different person ... the arrival at BP was an insight to a different person spent 15 mins or so shaking hands and even got a peck on the cheek ... dangerous or what ... no gloves ... ........or just an openess of his attitude!
 
I believe he also told the whole world in 1978 ior 1979 that by the year 2000 the polar ice caps would have melted away due to global warming

Those who were, or who are close to him, or so the story goes, say he’s arrogant beyond belief and that’s not a good trait

At least in my book, if it’s true of course

YEP confirmation of my post #28 in fact he looked and sounded completely different. When you think he has been 70 years in the making he has done really well ....
The comments on global warming by the Prince was no more or no less than many others were stating might happen and considering the time interval that has passed and the efforts taken to reduce Global warming all be it by restricting the rise to less than 1 degree [arbitarily depending on source ] he was on the right track. The north west passage ice diminished by quite a lot, melted ice was not being replaced on the annual cycle.
1979 was the start of records when it started to look like a problem! since then around 75%of the sea ice has melted, the thickness has thinned and storm waves are strong enough to ripple the ice which speeds up melt.

the efforts to control warming gases has helped reduce the temp take an ice cube place in a fridge at 0c / .1c and it will not melt or take sages and ages place a ice cube in a fridge at +1c and it will melt [ obvious we all know ice melts !!!!]
so 1c rise will speed it up ... in summer even artic gets warm !! so always going to be melt, problem is it doesnt stay cold enough or get the snow to replace it so might sound like C11C BACK THEN was off the mark but not really ... predicting a worst case scenario!

I loved the fact before he went in -he spoke with the people-respect for that must have been hard trying to keep his emotions under control.

I know when i lost my Dad then Mum i have experienced nothing like it in my lifetime.

You need time to grieve and reflect-King Charles does not have that time.<rose><rose><rose>

Long live the king.

Well ROD it would be nice to have a extra bank holiday every year we lag behind most countries .. but where best to fit it in? end of JUNE?

you do realise in costs the country millions in lost revenue not to mention companies having to pay staff.
This bank holiday is apparently down to the individual company if they give staff the time off.

it may cost some companies money for bank holidays .. but pay negotiations are usually based on ALL aspects hourly / salary rate... Christmas/ Easter time off ... bank holiday time off! / sick pay contribution/ and of course annual holiday time off... this is the package that is put together per emplyee.

losers and winners of course [ on the day ] Millions take the time off and make a weekend of it / day trips / a whole week [ a week off away with just 4 days annual used!] and what do they do... spend money on where they go so hospitality gets a boost from your icecream van to hotels and an awful lot of PUBS
