I wonder if the cancellation of the friday night games was a bit of a knee-jerk reaction, then they thought afterwards they'd better do the rest to avoid complaints from clubs affected on the Friday?
I've no idea why football has been picked out. Does seem to demonise the game a bit.
I had a similar thought. There's certain places it would have been a bad idea all round.Yes, they could have opted for a minute's silence and singing of the National anthem, but probably this could lead in some quarters whereby this was used as a platform to voice their opinion in a non-respectful way.
The last thing the authorities want is for football to be shown in a bad light, so the option to postpone IMO is the right one on balance.

So do we have no minutes silence etc at all for the Queen?I had a similar thought. There's certain places it would have been a bad idea all round.

Well of course they should. The authorities probably just thought it might be better to let certain section's excitement die down. As I said earlier, I'd have gone ahead with it, but I wouldn't be suprised if that's why they cancelled the weekends games. So do we have no minutes silence etc at all for the Queen?
Maybe but people who want to misbehave will do it then instead of tomorrow, no?Pretty sure the funeral day will be a bank holiday. Assume it would happen then.

DCMS may have been consulted, they might not. There is certainly no guidance encouraging any private organisations on what to do. It's up to them so it isn't a 'an institution of state' doing anything.Believe it would be a decision taken in conjunction with DCMS. Must say it feels to me a little bit like institutions of state are using the opportunity to reinforce serfdom here, if we're all still expected to work, spend and buy then I can't see the logic in cancelling football.

I'm pretty sure they've just decided they needed to go one way and chosen what seemed the safer, most respectful, option.
Not that it matters but I think it's the right call
