This postponing of fixtures is probably the safe option taken by the footballing authorities. This is more about the EPL and EFL etc as an organisation showing its respect for the passing of a monarch. Yes, they could have opted for a minute's silence and singing of the National anthem, but probably this could lead in some quarters whereby this was used as a platform to voice their opinion in a non-respectful way.
The last thing the authorities want is for football to be shown in a bad light, so the option to postpone IMO is the right one on balance.

Believe it would be a decision taken in conjunction with DCMS. Must say it feels to me a little bit like institutions of state are using the opportunity to reinforce serfdom here, if we're all still expected to work, spend and buy then I can't see the logic in cancelling football.
I had a similar thought. There's certain places it would have been a bad idea all round.
Exactly, I just think it's annoying, but I can understand why that decision was made.
I think there will be at some point, but just a couple of days after her death the feeling was probably let's play on the safe side and show respect. At the end of the day the EPL and the EFL are on a hiding to nothing, some will feel it shouldn't be postponed and some will feel it should. I just feel they are taking the safe option.

Well of course they should. The authorities probably just thought it might be better to let certain section's excitement die down. As I said earlier, I'd have gone ahead with it, but I wouldn't be suprised if that's why they cancelled the weekends games.
Seriously - what is wrong with some people - if you can't say anything respectful then it's very sad - the Queen devoted her life to civic duty for the UK and is loved by millions the world over - for many it is a very sad time and a significant part of this country's history - RIP

Possibly. I can't see the logic of the postponements - though I respect the fact that others may feel differently.
DCMS may have been consulted, they might not. There is certainly no guidance encouraging any private organisations on what to do. It's up to them so it isn't a 'an institution of state' doing anything.
I'm pretty sure they've just decided they needed to go one way and chosen what seemed the safer, most respectful, option.

If they were requested to postpone by dcms then they would have, and I believe consultation was part of the protocol. Either way, it is what it is and there's bigger things to worry about than a set of cancelled fixtures, even though I personally disagree.
