Agreed. People need to remember that most promoted sides either go straight back down, or struggle to around 15th position. We are 9th and have beaten some good teams already. Last night was our first poor performance of the season and it's understandable to a degree having lost our most important player 5 mins before KO

This season is going to be win 1, lose 1 a lot - there are some good teams in this league and we won't always play like we did v Rotherham.

Agree with all of that. Unfortunately too many of our good players picked last night to have a stinker **** happens, move on

True. However, we will see if the recruitment was correct now though. We did seem desperate for a striker and left sided / full back. Now we have injuries there it's going to show the situation.

All for young players but it's important to have a blend.

I think TM will iss this opportunity to move away fro. AN set up in terms of formation. Shame like as I like the 3 back.

Does my head in when we lose a game and people have a melt down. It wasn't a thrashing and no - Mowbray didn't engineer that loss because it was Middlesbrough. So far there's a lot more positives from this season than negative. Looks like we're just going to have to find a way to play without Stewart for a few weeks but I'm sure Mowbray will find a way to make our remaining attacking talent gel.

There have been a few whinges about last night, leading to a conclusion . . . .

We all know better, and know exactly what A.M. should have done, don't we !

He should have made different substitutions at different times, and we would have hammered them

Rod Stewart was the biggest problem, that nobody could have planned for . . . . if he'd not been injured at such an important time he would have scored at least one and we would have been sailing

Cirkens a kicker like. Really important for us. Gives us that flexibility to drop to 4 back. Not sure how that works out now. Dont have a player on the books that could play there effectively.

Doesn't Alese drop in? Or 09 with BW going to the right?

Agree. It's just typical (or expected) that the injuries we suffer have been in those positions you highlight. I don't go with this agenda that Speakmann and his arrogance have left us short - I think the club are committed to their philosophy and recruitment model even if it loses us a manager or leaves us short in areas.

Mowbray now has 3 sessions on the grass to find a way to play without Stewart. This is where he earns his money

Had Cirkin not done his hammy (and I guess it's still feasible he might play Sat) then I'd have been tempted to go back to the 4-2-3-1 that served us so well last season

Think it'll be Wright with O9 switching over. Bigger problem up front as Roberts doesn't have the pace for this league IMHO and playing him and Pritchard behind Simms doesn't work. Be temped to start Diallo

Quick like the idea of 2 pacy lads behind Simms. Balls into feet and 2 running past and off him could be exciting

Think the problem we have is that many of our options behind Simms are slow - Roberts, Pritchard, Embleton are all slower than me and I'm 46

Any decent left backs and strikers on a free?

    Maybe Diallo and Dajaku?

    Or Benette?

The ones we brought in are here to play and we might end up having to use them sooner than planned, but if you don't try you never know

If he goes to a back 4 i wouldnt mind hume starting at RB n gooch switching to LB. Always thought Gooch defended better from LB

Forgot about Hume, he's looked capable as well in the short bits we have seen of him.

Hume can cover RWB as well I believe?

Doesn't take much to come up with some decent looking options really

Alese has played left back previously, is fast, can dribble, and has good feet. I'd be surprised if he hasn't at least been considered for left back. Apparently he sometimes doesn't position himself right in wide positions though.

With Stewart out, it makes more sense for us to go 433 or 4231. I still think that's natural for the squad we've got.

Agree with that, think 4231 suits most of our players better. So far playing 532 has worked due to having the 2 strikers. Roberts is so much better from a wider position.

It would just be who to play at LB, probably between Alese n Gooch
