I agree, with 2 training days until Sheff Utd, I reckon he's likely to start as well. The window has been fantastic on the whole but I'm not sure the last month has gone as well as we'd probably have hoped.
With the incoming players, I'm not even sure if he would be our first choice anymore. He played well at wing back, but then his last 2 games were (surprisingly) pretty average. Depending on the formation, SA could use Pelkas out wide and play Tufan or one of the new guys at 10.
It's a lot of players to get to gel, need to give them a bit of time I guess. Anyway looks a lot better than we did, still having to rely on Dykes up front!
Got to feel for some of the lads who are nowhere near the squad now but didn't get moves. There's Smith, Cannon, Williams And then there's the young lads too like Jacob, C Jones, Wood. So not sure what really happens for their development either
Ignoring the young lads we've got 29 senior players in the squad now. Not only is it a lot of players to keep happy it's one hell of a wage bill. I think the 3 you mention and maybe even Doc will be on their way in January
It is a really big squad, yet we've still got some pretty clear holes I think you can add Longman and McLoughlin into that too. The next month or 2 is massive for Longman and he needs to do something, otherwise he won't be getting in the squad when Sinik and Allahyar come back
I don't think McLoughlin is good enough and wouldn't mind seeing him move on. I think theres a player in Longman but he's so frustrating. The purple patch last season showed how good he can be but he needs to find some consistency. It's difficult to see him getting a substantial amount of minutes now though
We're still short at centre half of quality, that's been apparent so far. I think the strangest signing personally is Simons, he's going to have such a short window of minutes and if he's not an instant success he'll just disappear.
He is very versatile though, only a young lad will be happy being amongst a first team environment consistently rather than an u21
I imagine he was cheap and can cover both midfield and CB. I'd say he's the only tough tackling midfielder we've got, so he may get a fair amount of minutes, even if it's just to try and see out games.
Plan can’t be 5 at the back anymore far too many options further up the pitch and dead light on centre halves with no wing backs.
Alfie has been very good in that role though, QPR aside. Maybe the thinking is that he might take over from Figs at the back. Either way, it's still going to be tough for Simons, and making the squad alone isn't going to be easy. He could've gone Wimbledon and played every week though. I thought it was going to be one for the future, like Salah, so was surprised when there was no buy option. Completely agree with this, 5 at the back would be squad pegs in round holes
