I was initially extremely shocked that the BBC had decided to axe the classified football results on Radio 5 and thought that most fans would be aghast at this news. Like many of the pundits questioned regarding this decision, I felt that it would ultimately be reversed. It seemed like a bit of British heritage was being chipped away.

However, upon reflecting upon this, I think that the classified results gave become irrelevent regardless of the tea time kick off of some matches - which incidently are not always commentary games on Radio 5. Comment has been made that most fans get their results through their mobile phones with the consequence that it is likely to be sightless fans who will suffer most. Fans who have tried to get an internet connection at St Mary's may feel different. I think that the biggest criticism of the Classified Scores is that the women's game is ignored. I may be wrong about this but i admit I tend to zone out after the Scottish Premier league. I can see a point being reached within the next ten years where the top level of Women's football in the UK has as big a following as many of the Championsip sides in England. Women's football will have acquired a huge fan base and how will they be served by a results service ? Where will women's football fit in within the hierachy of the classified results ? Come 2030 the absence of the women's scores will seem ridiculous. In conclusion, I am saddened by the news about the results , especially as it only takes about 10 minutes to read out. However, I can see why they might be considered irrelevent these days.

Went to watch Bristol City v Luton last night (I know, why?) and City have 2 CMs who look to have big futures.

Hans Massengo is a more defensive minded one breaking up the play and was definitely a level above most players on the pitch. Think he could slot into a PL side and not look out of place even though he is only 20 I think my mate said

But the one with a really big future is Alex Scott. 18 years old and was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch. Reminded me of Jack Grealish how he just ghosted past players and played a few great passes which highlighted his vision despite so young, including a good pass for an assist. Definitely one to keep an eye on in the future (I hope Saints are at least)

I briefly switched over from Radio Solent to see how Radio 5 sounded without the classified results. They appear to have replaced this wtih an asssessment from the studio by Danny Murphy which offered an over-view of the day's results in the Premier League. There was a note that tye classified results could be found onside with an audio commentary. All in all, I can understand why it was considered necessary to ditch the reading of the classified results but they have replaced it was some pretty low-rate journalism - effectively a preview for tonight's Match of the Day.

I read an article about the projected value of women's football in the near future and just how much this will increase , not only in value but also in significance. It will be a transformation and I can see a point being reached when the BBC will need to cover this side of the game with as much repsect as the men;s game. I could see it getting to the point where , say, the Man City's women team would get a far bigger profile than a club such as Ipswich Town. At the moment, the results service on BBC Radio 5 does not give the women's game the same level of credence it perhaps should have in 2022. Traditionalists are bemoaning about the classified results being ditched yet, come 2032, I am sure that football fans will want to hear about both the men and the women's game receiving proper analysis.

My issue with the BBC coverage is that it is sometimes too focussed on PL issues and does not really consider the wider picture. If you listen to 606, the people selected no longer seem to come from lower league clubs. It does not really cover the whole of the game. Locally, the covergae of non-league football has been given lip-service by Radio Solent. My point is that if the BBC wants to re-model how it reports football, I think it needs to look at the whole of the game. I would like a results service or even sports report that conisdered all levels of the men;s game and also dealt respectively towards women's football. What we have at the moment is something too modish insofar that the teams given the most attention is far too selective so that it ultimately misses a lot of what is happening in the English and Scottish game. What we are getting is just a list of sound bites and the quality of journalism is diminishing.

Its not West Hams fault, but if a country's entry rules impede a teams ability to compete in continental competition that should be a forfeit in favour of Viborg imo, or it the return leg should be played at an acceptable venue where both teams can field their chosen players.
