I’m not sure why Chelsea are trying to get Cucurella. I’d be disappointed if Brighton get Colwill as part of the deal - even though we don’t have the squad space which is unfortunate. But as alluded to this might not work out if Chelsea want a buy back clause (or he wants a release clause)
I just don’t get why they want him really. And swap deals are notoriously tricky. Perhaps it is no accident that they seem to be suggesting so many now they have an American owner who has taken personal charge of the transfers
They'll ship out Alonso and Cucurella and Chilwell will share the LB slot. I can see why they want him.
The way I read that is that Chelsea want Colwill to be part of the deal. It doesn't say he is the player that Brighton want.
Although we are renowned as a club for players to pass through on their way to Liverpool, I think we would act similarly to Brighton in this case. I obviously don't have any insider knowledge but the impression I get is we would expect at least two seasons from a player before we listen to offers. The two season rule has only been mentioned in general terms by Semmens and also Ralph during interviews in the past. I think we would object quite strongly if a player signed with that agreement in place and then wanted to leave after a year, although the player holds all the cards admittedly. The situation with van Dijk, as I remember it, was that he was injured for most of his second season so we wanted more from him before we sold. On top of that, he was being paid (on an improved contract) while Saints got him fit again, and all the time was having illicit meetings with Klopp. No surprise that initially we dug our heels in and as a result he, as good as, went on strike. As I say that's as I remember it but may be a bit embellished by hate. Edit. I've posted this before I finished, I may have to come back and edit.
I’d have thought he would prefer city where I’d expect he’d be closer to first choice as they don’t have a natural left back at all. But perhaps he now just wants to go for fear of being stuck there
So I assume you disagree with the Times headline of ‘Cancelo horror show highlights city’s urgent need for new left back?’ He’s been found wanting defensively many times already, including last season where he was excellent going forwards. They’ve sold Zinchenko so obviously they need somebody to compete with him for that slot. Also Cancelo can play anywhere.
The original source is the Scum, soooo.... https://thisisfutbol.com/2022/08/bl...enham-hotspur-spurs-premier-league-transfers/ I'd be gutted to lose him especially to Everton or Spuds.
This is rehash of talk from weeks ago it seems. They need people to keep reading for rumours Spurs have signed spence and Everton don’t have 40m. I expect the logic also comes from the assumption that we haven’t sold anyone yet and will need to. Which might be correct but we don’t know yet. But it readily ignores that he is our only fit right back If spurs really wanted him you would have thought Spence would have come to us - especially as it sounds like he is a Spurs signing and not a Conte one. I’m pretty sure Conte was quoted as saying the club wanted him
He is a good proven player, English and only 25 so was always going to be expensive. This is the point where he throws his toys out the pram if he was at Saints... wonder if it'll happen here.
