Slater gets stuck in but two holding midfielders who are 5 ft 8 in and 5 ft 6 in will get thrown about like a empty tracksuit by Championship teams. Seri got brushed off the ball with ease for the first Leicester goal when he was looking for someone to pass to. If Seri and Slater start together, they need a bigger guy in there as a midfield three.
Yeah but that's not going to happen every game is it? He took his eye off the game against PL opposition for a second and was punished, I wouldn't use that as an example of him not being suited to defensive midfield duties. He often plays deeper to link up the play, either we have a box to box lad like Seri and a ball winner in Slater, or we play a different system. For me the issue isn't in defensive midfield, it is (and has been since we lost Grosicki) the lack of direct attacking play. Hopefully Sinik can bring that to the table because our shots per game over 90 minutes have been piss poor. If we don't get near the opposition box without lumping it forward from the defence, we aren't going to score.
Didn't Lewie Coyle cover at CM in one of his previous teams? not sure what he would be like but potential for a bit of an Ian Ashbee? Im in agreement that Slater might be good for it and Seri is not the pushover he's made out to be. Im also confused how it would work having a set CDM as Seri is instructed to drop back and pick up the ball all the time?
Alright, well agree to disagree then. I cba to argue the toss why I think Seri and Slater aren’t physical enough as a pair in midfield.
I am referring to a player who will give his all and bleed for the club and fans. Obviously some don't think Docherty can do it or is not good enough, nothing against slater at all but i think Docherty should be there.
In all seriousness what is with that, I get driving forward in to space but ending up as the furthest player forward trying to break the lines is a bit of weird one??
Docherty is a bit of a liability defensively, he dives in with reckless challenges. However, I would play him at the moment further forward, as Tufan at present is not up to speed IMO. I think his energy pressing defenders and he has a goal in him, might prove to be a better option.
He's a big unit, defensive, hasn't got bad feet on him for a defender and when the ball's further up the field he could win the ball in good positions for Seri to do his thing.
He’s got 5 goals in 2 seasons, he can run all day but defensively he’s suspect and he’s not creative enough going forward
