I think gutting and turning over an entire squad in one window is a massive mistake and spells doom. Getting rid of the **** kickers this window in Cannon, Moncur, Eaves, Wilks, etc. is fine, and replace them with quality first XI improvements, then get rid of your Elders, Coyles, Slater, Honeyman who are around about first XI but not really anymore the following summer makes far more sense. Ripping the bandaid all at once won't work IMO. But hey, what do I know?

Why does it spell doom though? It's fair to say it won't perform at the peak of it's powers but I don't see why it spells doom. The players coming in are a much higher calibre and even if we have a steady season, we should still be top half. Last season, we couldn't score and had to play a back 5 along with 2 holding midfielders to keep the door shut. I don't really see how it can get worse.

Some obviously look at things positively and others negatively, it's probably actually somewhere between the 2.

Absolutely. And please don't mistake me for a doom merchant. I am more than happy to get excited and praise things that deserve praise, and I know I've probably lurched more to the negative the last few days/weeks but I am trying to look at things rationally (I know it may not appear that way). I just feel a bit nervous that a lot are automatically seeing things as "It's not the Allams therefore it's brilliant" rather than actually scrutinising the detail. I'm sure if you have details some of us aren't privy to you may be frustrated as you can see the big signing around the corner, or the awesome sponsorship deal about to be announced, but we can only go on what we can see.

That's just my gut. Changing a side too quickly doesn't tend to work out for sides. But hey, we could sign 5-6 players in the next few weeks and suddenly come the start of the season we look amazing and settled and I look silly. I'm more than happy for that to happen.

Because we have a league game in 3 weeks that we need a competitive side for. Or are we now happy to write off the first month of games?

Not happy to write of anything, but we all ( should ) know that a large amount of business gets done right at the death in the window and therefore any real fair judgement on how the window has been should be given once it's closed.

Understood. I guess it's just a change of tune from Shark and others praising how quickly we were doing our business to get new players in to now be saying we'll probably need to wait until the last few days, but also understandable as I suspect we'll dip into the PL loan market which only really becomes active in those last few weeks.

Anyway, enough nattering from me. We have a class new kit out, a great shirt sponsor, we've announced Tufan, it's been a good few days. Let's see what the week brings.

On a separate note, I really don't expect us to challenge for promotion this season, I think top half would be a great improvement. I said imo it will take us 3 windows to really become a promotion challenger and I'm sticking to it

Agreed! I said on our end of season podcast that if we come away from this coming season disappointed that we missed the play offs, that'll do me.

Me too. There are lots of clubs already in a stronger position imo. It might take time for new players to settle in and we’re undergoing a rebuild.

Stoke, for example, are a similar club to us imo. Both been in the Prem in the last decade and both capable of pushing for promotion. We’ll just have to see.

We've still got 5 in and that's really good. They're all starters too and all improve us but we've been knocked off course a little by missing out on Seri and Twine which we got pretty close to by all accounts.

Hopefully we won't have to wait until the last few days, and hopefully we can get Muriqi sorted next week and then we aren't too bad even if we do have to wait.

If we do manage to get Muriqi in, probably they will look to the loan market to add a bit of depth, unless KPL goes then we might see a replacement for him being bought.

My prediction was almost spot on. Unveiling of new sponsor and shirt along with new signing. The shirt should have been out on Friday but due to a hitch was delayed slightly.
Apparently possible good news on a striker either tomorrow or Tuesday.

Who's the 5? What have I missed? See post #1.
Tufan, Fig. Maybe Traore?
You surely don't count players that were already here and playing last season.

The angst is more the message from when Acun came into the club, that no one that wanted to be here would go, that we were a family, etc. etc. and then letting one of the most popular figures at the club go for peanuts because in his eyes we weren't valuing him at what he was worth. Now I'm sure the message will swing to him being greedy, mercenary, etc. etc. but that's probably why there's a bit of frustration - at least that's why I felt frustrated at it.
Well he (Honeyman) clearly didn't want to stay here that much if he so easily, readily, early made his mind up to go to Millwall (as has now come out)!! The reverse of what he was saying publicly at the time.
