Barcelona apparently has rejected the second offer of £56M insisting that they want £65M and nothing less.

Utd have declared that they are now going to do business differently. Oh yes? They are behaving with exactly the same incompetence as they’ve done in the last ten years. Sellers seeing through the desperation despite the negotiations <doh>
I was going to make that comment but I’m glad you went negative first.

You bastard!! lol

What does it say about Arnold and the executives if now they pay the full price or walk away after declaring publicly that they will get their man for their manager. The more this saga rumbles on, the more their incompetence is becoming apparent.

It really is ridiculous! For us to go public about our interest but then start playing games over 10-20% added premium is simply an unbelievable own goal. We can’t walk away now. So something has to give.

Such a useless distraction!

All we need to do is get it out there that we are moving on to other options, see if Barca need the money or not.

Why even play games? Just pay the fkin fee already! It is way too late for posturing at this point.

We back in training already?

Give in to one demand, give in to all and each will get bigger.

Utd trying to change the basic law of supply and demand <laugh> ? I have a property which someone else desperately wants. So they want to negotiate with me to reduce the price. Why should I ****ing reduce my asking price. You want my property you pay my price. If not **** off. This is exactly what Barcelona are doing. Arnold has said to a group of fans that Utd has prioritised this player. It’s like playing poker with Utd showing their hand. Their negotiating power is so ridiculous.

I hope Utd can get out of of this situation with some dignity but it looks like either full price or walking away humiliated.

Or alternatively we could just announce the signing of a new midfielder and leave Barca with money problems?

EDIT....now might be a good time to point out that Barca are really chasing Raphinha from Leeds but don't have the £60m asking price,
Bargaining works two ways most of the time, never pay first asking price because everyone takes the piss.

That would be ideal. Used to be Utd well proven tactics. Go for 3 or 4 and don’t let any ****ers hold the club to ransom. If one plays silly buggers then walk away. This time however TenHaag and Arnold have shown their hands and there is no other alternatives in the pipeline. Completely our own incompetence .

The thing is though, clubs have over-priced players to us for far too long and we've just accepted it on the basis that

a) we want the player
b) we can afford it

When you continue along that line you will always end up paying over the odds.

I do agree with you about Arnold though. I haven't heard him say that, but if he has then you CAN'T on the one hand try and break the habit of being bent over by other clubs whilst at the same time coming out with stuff that undermines that.

That the press have got knowledge of.

Arnold actually assured the supporters that the club were doing all they can to sign the player, he never said we would pay whatever was asked.

Same thing tbf. As far as the signal you're sending out to Barca so it's no surprise they're now playing silly buggers.

For a seller the uncertainty rests with either there are other alternatives or the buyer is prepared to walk away. It applies to almost anything: cars, houses, art , players etc. By promising (on tape) that the player will be bought, he’s really undermined one of his best bargaining chips. Barcelona are just behaving exactly how I would expect them to knowing Utd’s desperation. Utd is a ****ing laughing stock.

Ok

And now Ajax are playing the same game. Knowing that Utd are keen on Antony, they’ve slapped a £69m price. Take it or leave it they’ve said as they are apparently keen for him to stay another season. The consensus was he was worth £40m-£45m.

Things are getting worse :(

Arnold public declaration that Utd will be tougher now is amounting to …exactly nothing.

And Timber.
Always going to happen when journo's report a club is desperate for a particular player.
It's been reported about 1,000 times that ETH want's to "build his team" around a player, if this is true then he needs to **** off before the season starts (i don't believe it is, prob just sensationalist click bait).
Great managers instil a style/system into a club that runs throughout all age groups, in this way you always have a player who (although lesser) is ready to step into a position when needed and know what his role is.

Too many people read so called news stories and just accept them as gospel.

Nkunku has just signed a contract extension so that's over with.

What's interesting is the buy out clause in the new contract is £51m.

Makes me wonder why we didn't offer that if we were interested in him? Unless we did and he still decided to stay, or we weren't interested in him.
