True and no doubt. But, it is also possible that the Burnley board may well have been fibbing to him to take the job.
Maybe they fancy putting their heads in the sand and follow Derby and Birmingham’s method of how to run a football club.
Sounds like there might be a bidding war for Twine? Sounds like he could be a good acquisitiion, although I'd point out that Malik had a lot of goals and assists in League One, and George was player of the year in that division - and one of them has looked much better in the championship than the other. Just at the moment, if I had a choice between hearing George had signed for 3 years or we were signing Scott Twine, I'd be more pleased by George signing.
20 goals and 13 assists in George’s position though! They’re going to be wanting £5m+ and unless Malik pulls a decent fee I think he’s only heading one way.
I read something yesterday saying Burnley’s must pay loan amount is a lot less than what the media are saying. I guess it’ll all come out as we go along anyway!
I guess time will tell, though he won't be the first manager to maybe have given the assurances of money to spend, and then find things are not what they seem.
I don't understand what burnley were thinking by taking out a loan in the first place. If clubs need to do that when they are enjoying the income of the premier league, then i hope we finish 3rd and get beat in the play offs.
This year’s loan repayment is rumoured to be £15M. The loan is substantial but the urgency to pay has been overstated in the media.
Fair response! Maybe I'm a bit too wedded to my opinion of George's value to the team, but just feel there's something about the guy's attitude and commitment that we should definitely find room for in this project. Keep seeing people speculating on the team for next season and feel like some see him as a squad player.. I'd definitely want him to be in the first Xl on 30th July.
100% he’s still our best midfielder as far as I’m concerned. I think Twine would work very well alongside him as he from what I read is also a very hard worker but excels in what George struggles in. And vice versa.
I'm sure Shota is even keener than us to get these new signing in, so I'm sure everyone will be pushing hard to make it happen. As soon as everything is finalised we will get the announcement, we just need to be patient.
Millwall bid £1.5 million for Lewis Ferguson but Aberdeen want £3 million. I think we should be all over that. He’s a decent midfielder. His energy and work-rate is similar to Docherty but he’s much better technically.
