Was doing a scouting assignment tonight from a game in Turkey and our old friend Papy Djilobodji was playing - he is a shocking shocking footballer. Just reminded me of how bad our recruitment was for so long - we had no plan whatsoever. Which is why I'm excited to see who we bring in this season since we finally have a plan & have folk that know what they are doing.
To be honest I will be shockef if we dont splash the cash a bit. I have always thought we would bring in 2 or 3 players for decent money. No inside info or anything, but I do think it is what we need and will do it. The club will have a crack at top 6 in my opinion. Alex Neil will demand hid players too, and he will set high standards.
Think their will have to be a degree of wheeling and dealing and in some cases unpopular decisions will have to be made , as long as we get the right players in we have to accept some sacrifices and keep the faith in our Management and recruitment team to end up with the right calibre team to take the club forward .
I'd honestly love it if we splashed a bit of cash in a clever way and made a bit of a statement. I think Neil will go for expirienced Championship players with mix of youth in loan. Would be amazed if we spend close to 10m.
I think we'd pay decent money on players whose value could potential increase with the right coaching and playing time
I think we will spend a bit of cash, don't get me wrong, but potentially spending 5m on one player (plus the wages a 5m player would want) is a hell of a jump from where we have come from. Not many clubs in the championship spent cash last year. Huddersfield were in the black and they got to the playoff final.
I'm much more confident in the scouting setup we have at present and I can see it expanding over the next view seasons.
I am as well mate. I think there will be a mix of 'unknown' players who will turn out to be gems plus one or two high profile loans from the big boys plus mostly champiship experience. The odd one won't work out of course but that's just football.
There is no way you can get 100% transfers correct but we've not signed many dudds over the last 3 windows. Defoe was a strange one has he didn't seem to fit the model we are trying to employ.
I don't think we will be making a signing like that again. I was up for it at the time (sentimental twat!) but we got burned with that one. Hopefully Speakman, Harvey etc have it all under control.
You would imagine it would be a PL youngster without a clear pathway. Jack Clarke might be the one as Spurs may just cut their losses. There of course loads of u23 players at good prem clubs who are unlikely to play for their first team anytime soon.
Tin hat on but presuming we'll have a tight budget I'd hope we wouldn't be blowing the majority on Clarke.
There'll be a budget but not one that's likely to hold us back. KLD will know the Championship soaks up money and he'll need to get the hell out of there.
Wilson seems to hedge his bets like Nixon. If said player signs he was right, if said player stays put he was right. I honestly don’t think there are many people who know what is happening.
