Defensive midfielder who can apparently cover at central defence What intrigues me is that he seems to be the same position as Chauke who city apparently tried to take off of us Leeds might have the upper hand since City apparently want phillips and it could facilitate a deal. Although if city want him they’ll get him without the need to send a player to Leeds to sweeten the deal
I'm beginning to understand why they renamed our 23s to Southampton B now. Would've been very confusing having two Under-23 teams.
Electric player. He's more of a pure winger but he can be a 9 as well. I think he would be a solid Broja replacement.
This aligns with what I was just about to post regarding midfield. Links to Svanburg and this Man City youngster imply that we might be trying to move Diallo on Others could suggest it means JWP is going but I certainly wouldn’t expect either of the two linked players to be his replacement even if it did happen
I wonder what is being considered a massive overhaul? I would think it means that leaving (with corresponding replacements) would be: - at least one CB other than Salisu (likely which ever one we can shift). - Salisu if a big offer comes in and/or it doesn’t seem like he will extend for a sensible amount - Diallo - At least three of the 10s (Djenepo, Walcott, Elyounoussi, Redmond, Tella) - Smallbone and Valery on loan - Broja (end of loan and already gone) - Adam Armstrong (probably) - Shane Long if he doesn’t at least half his wages - (Brucey Bonus) Someone offers to make McCarthy their number two. Even on a free. This one is least likely and we’d struggle to bring another goalkeeper in to be number 2 to a promising 20 year old who has been given certain guarantees That would be circa 8 more in comings but heavily dependent on getting people out . I’d suggest we really only had “space” in the squad for one more CM as we had 3 players covering two positions This city youngster who can cover at central defence will be ideal as he could cover this squad space and Valery’s (on paper) But I’m getting into too much speculation here. It might be more like 5 players but that is probably fewer than last year so doesn’t seem “massive”
He turned down us and Leverkusen apparently which is an interesting decision to say the least. I expect he was guaranteed more football there and not many players can jump straight from South America to the high intensity of the premier league. If you’ve ever tried watching domestic South American football the pace always seems no existent Seems reassuring that we seem to be trying to look further afield and potentially trying to get the Darwin Nunez types before they make their first European move and before they hit the 30m bracket (that he was rumoured to be last summer when Brighton wanted him)
It is probably more of a cultural thing. The weather, lifestyle and language makes it more appealing and easier for South American footballers and even other South Americans to settle in Italy, Spain and Portugal than northern Europe especially as there will be others from their own country there too. Sassulo probably has other Uruguayan players who persuaded him to go there as well.
