as I said above, it’s not playing U23 football that will develop him, it’s working with City’s first team and coaches and Pep day in and day out for a season before having another loan deal next year. That’s what I’d do.
I get that. But after a season playing in competitive games it's a step backwards just training and being coached and not playing competitive games.
many people see it that way but others don't. Pep favours coaching than game time, a lot of the time. Look at Foden, Palmer, Delap, McAtee. No loans. developed in house and playing / training with their first team. Doyle spent the second half of our season on our bench and being coached by our coaches when he could have spent it training with Laporte and Dias and working with Pep and his coaches. I'm not saying first team football isn't important. But he's still crazy young. In a way he went on loan a year earlier than you'd normally expect. So he has time in the bank to get some coaching and maturing in before then going out to a championship club NEXT year. I'd suggest he's not likely to start regularly for a championship club, and league one football isn't ideal for him. So they're better off developing him more in house then sending him to championship (or maybe even abroad) next season.
It very much depends on the player. Doyle was physically mature and a season in mens football was right for him. City will have picked the environment for him carefully and we had all the attributes they would have wanted in terms of training facilities and how the club wanted to play. Foden has taken longer to get to that maturity physically. He might stay there, I dont know, but if I were his coach I would want him playing 1st team games again. A club like Derby, if they sort themselves, could be perfect fit.
Have we still got good links into the City group or was that more LJ? I know we have links to Marwood as he is from Sunderland. Would be great to get a couple of those City lads mentioned.
LJ definitely was well regarded by the lads at City, including the main man. Whether that is the only reason we got Doyle and Roberts I doubt though. I would think they would trust us again.
See, I'd argue that those other 3 now require competitive games as they have only made fleeting appearances with the first team.
The Hunter on RTG says his heard a link with a player from the Swiss league. He used to be a journalist and is a massive lads fan
Lets be honest Gooch is going to have loads of clubs after him, not because of his ability, i dont mean that in a negative way at all, but because he's a free agent and as far as free agents go he'd be a good acquisition for any team due to his versatility and him being a half decent player for a freebie. If he goes he goes, i wouldnt lose any sleep over it. If he stays then we know we've got a half decent player that will do a job when needed. I judge him from his whole Sunderland career over the years and not just a Purple patch that he had towards the end of last season. We've had many bad memories over the last 6-7 years, and unfortunately he's been part of most squads during that time.
Jonjoe Kenny rejects contract offer at Everton and will be on the move. This he was mentioned earlier in the thread...
