Tbh we have dodged one there to get a point, but looked much better with the introductions of Grealish and Bowen, not sure how Mount gets a game tbh, think he must have the black on Southgate !
Easy, he's a defensive player in the guise of an attacking midfielder. Plus he works really hard. Pragmatism is southgates bread and butter. Mount fits the bill perfectly.

we were lucky the plank doing VAR was only looking at the penalty and not the offside - Bowen and Grealish made a real difference, Sterling is just ****

one of the channel 4 commentators mentioned at one point that the third highest scorer for england in today's team (apparently also the "most experienced england team" picked in ages) was maguire with 7, so next behind kane and sterling.

there was something one of the commentators said that was just plain wrong, but i forget what it was.

Nearly everybody on twitter was saying that Kane was offside. I saw one comment that it was a German player who played the ball to Kane. I couldnt tell whether it was a German or Sterling.

Aren't the way the rules are written more complicated than they need to be.
When Kane was first in an offside position there was an attempt to pass the ball to Sterling so Kane wasn't offside
When the ball was played by the German into Kane's path then Kane wasn't offside
Regarding the Benzema offside goal, trying to work out what is deliberate or not is impossible

Not the worst game to watch, clearly the players are still recovering from their holidays. Germany on the day was the better side, but credit to the team for sticking at it and getting the draw. I thought Bellingham was very good as was Kane, also Pickford apart from his distribution. Neuer's distribution is excellent, and all-around game is still one of the best.

Frankly, we don't want to be playing our best just yet, slowly build up to peak at the World Cup.

I can't actually remember if he touched it first, but the real irony is that if he hadn't been fouled and had scored, VAR would have ruled it offside.
That’s ridiculous. The rules need a total reset. It’s become far too complicated, presumably because we now have VAR, but championship and below doesn’t ( and doesn’t seem to have the same controversy/ discussion).

This makes no sense, surely the offside is first because the offside is before the foul? If he wasn't fouled and scored, the goal wouldn't have stood, if the pass was played by the England player.

Is it because even though he was in an offside position he's not actually offside until he touches the ball?

It's an absolutely ridiculous state of affairs that VAR has made things more controversial and complicated and yet it's accepted as something that's here to stay. What on earth is the point of keeping something so disliked when it demonstrably hasn't improved things at all.
