You’ve got to feel for Coventry. I can’t imagine what went ahead was much fun.

Some good 2tone stuff & cultural acceptance events that enhanced the City’s history of being a proud multicultural City. Some on here could learn a little from both their & our history.

I think the covid situation last year didn’t help though

Pauline Black was an ambassador. Superb.

To be honest I read the post assuming they meant that it wasn’t much fun being it during covid though. Shame for them really, a very big chunk of their 4 years impacted.

City of Culture is a great year for any city but I doubt anywhere else will ever have the same impact it made on changing the perception of a place as it did for Hull. Good for Londonderry and Coventry and it will be good for Bradford, game changer for us.

That’s indeed what I meant. One of my favourite, if corny, aspects when we had it was everyone coming together and sharing experiences highlighting the good things that make Hull what it is. It must have been quite difficult to replicate that when you’re actually being told you can’t do just that.

I'd agree
We were the first, and that really helped us

I’ve spent some time in Coventry the last few years & they were definitely in need of it more than us. I think we already had a lot in place but bad (unwarranted) press to get over.

Using the slightly, erm, unorthodox definition of ‘first’ that placed us four years after Derry/Londonderry?
Apologies
You’re right
For some reason I’d got it my head they were something slightly different
Probably thinking of Liverpool and the European version

Anyone go see the Jubilee flotilla???

Errr.....but ****e want it.

Apart from the spitfires.
The idea was good in principle, but the Humber is massively wide with a narrow channel for boats. It needed bigger boats sounding their horns and lights and stuff to have an impact. Fireworks were good though.
