You've set me thinking here, always dangerous, but I remember the football echo being green for a period following another relegation it then returned to being pink when we were promoted.
My head hurts! I remember the green Football Echo but can't remember the reason

As a kid we lived in the suburbs of Gateshead, not far from the Heworth Metro Station for those who know it.
We got the Fooball Pink which was the Newcastle version.
The Football Echo was Pink but changed to Green when the club dropped a division, which seemed quite frequent in the sixty's.
You could pick up a copy after the match, we used to get one outside Whitburn station as we used the trains before cars were invented into our household.
There used to be a column for late scores down the right side of the front page iirc.
Always wondered as a kid how the papers appeared so quickly.
For away games a guy used to walk down our street selling them, and he was there well before 6pm.

We used to get off the supporters bus at Annfield Plain and queue up at Gregson's paper shop for the Football Echo, there was near riots on if they sold out and only had Newcastle Pinks available. I will never know how they got them out so quickly

aye, seem to remember they got them printed and in the shops very fast, considering there was no tinterweb or computer aided type setting...did not really think about it as a kid but all i could think was that they were on the old landline and it was put into print as they said it, still remarkable when every north east game had a section.

'Argus' had a way of reporting that could transport you back inside the ground while MotD still had the exact same bias as it has now.
