Players we've bought have increased in value which goes against the norm at Sunderland.

Matete, Pritchard, Stewart, Winchester, etc are all good buys and despite the previous owners we still have the likes of Patterson, Neil Embleton.

Plus the big clubs are obviously content to let their young players come here.

That's the basis of a good club and it's done without spending big money. How great was it that the winning goal was scored by one of our own :emoticon-0103-cool:

We are a lot stronger than some give us credit for, I recon two full backs and 2 strikers are all we are desparitly short of , due to previous mistakes, anything after that its a bonus imo. I will be happy with a mid table possition next season with further development at U23 level, but would not be surprised if we do better, the main objective for me would be to maintain progress overall , and not think that splashing cash is the only answer.. Neither will getting rid of CM and SD who have done little to merit the abuse they get from some quarters, who choose to ignore the perilous state we were in when they took over.
Wish there was a don’t like button

In a perverse way, could KLD keep these 2 hanging around longer than they actually want to be and end up rinsing them for a good few quid in the process if they have to match his investment?

That might depend on the nature of the deal signed when KLD arrived.

Clearly , they are obliged to match funding on a pro rata basis. But it could be that any investment up to or above a certain, pre agred limit has to be agreed by all parties.

We cannot know this stuff, so I'm still going of the interview KLD did over a year ago, when he articulated HIS ideas.

We'll see, but as much as I'd like those two completely disconnected from us, I just suspect that they might be more uncomfortable with the position than us. Or KLD.

Frankly if KLD or whoever started splashing the cash around, I'm not sure I'd like it. Sure it would be exciting but there'd be such a sense of pressure to succeed. And we'd be a laughing stock when we don't.

I'd much rather the club spent the money that we generate and we use it well and everyone applauds us as being a club that do things right.

In the PL - we absolutely should spend lots of money. And if we do things right in the championship, we won't have debts. So we can use the premier league TV money to spend on actual players rather than service old debt.

Correct. Sustainable, structured growth is the way. It was always the way.

When you think about it, the approach we have adopted with younger players, sensible wages etc means we are in a great position compared to 80% of the championship.

I saw a piece this morning where all bar about 5 championship clubs have wages far in excess of turnover.

This could be the perfect storm

It would also be nice if we could plunder the best talent from other academies.

My opinion is that KLD is clearly the most likely buyer.

He's also, obviously, close to Sartori.

Anyone buying Donald and Methven's shares would know that's all they get.

They'd have absolutely no control over what KLD does.

So, as things stand, he has the upper hand and can basically ignore them but ensure they pay their dues.

I know we'd like them gone but they're basically harmless ...

... I get the feeling he's stitched them up.

It wouldn’t be a surprise mate. They are way out of their depth in dealing with him and his legal/financial team.

What makes a club big? It’s been discussed many times with a lot of opinions voiced. Obviously a good history, own the ground and the size of the facilities, money to buy the best players, and the size and intensity of its support. Sunderland ticks all except one; finance to buy the best. Or perhaps that is coming. In my opinion the most important of these requirements is the support. But not just the numbers, it’s the way in which those supporters do their supporting. And our supporters are immense! The way they celebrate but at the same time behave has really impressed me over the years. Generation after generation upholding the good name of the club. On Saturday their behaviour won the club friends from all over the country and the world. That short video of them at the end singing our anthem brought tears of pride to my eyes and even solicited a comment from FIFA, apparently. KLD must now be more determined than ever to take this club to the very top. Everyone who went to the game should be proud of themselves - I certainly am!

Cracking post mate. Cap doffed.

Just seen this posted on Twitter, mainly about dum and dummer still being around but one of the comments finished with...

"Personally I'd like to see a complete takeover from a outside investor that wants to take the club forward because tbh I don't really trust any of them. I think the groan around Wembley when KLD was put on the big screen sums up what people think of them so fingers crossed something changes and we move forward."

Really, a load of crap as far as I'm concerned, suggesting that a large part of the fans don't want KLD. Some people need to boil their heads!
