Thoughts on having Geads on the bench? He missed out for the Sheff Wed away game because Broadhead was fit but could we squeeze him in for, say, Hume? Big game player and wouldn't be phased by the occasion. Could be handy.

Good idea mate.

The game is too big for Hume ...

... so are the Wycombe Grapplers <laugh>

We have to limit them on corners and free kicks where they can pin Patterson onto his line and hope for a fortunate drop of the ball in the box like their late equaliser at their place this season.
If we start with purpose and get our passing game together then we will win.
We cannot afford to go 0-1 and then chase the game as their ****housery will go into overdrive.
Every confidence Neil will set us up right and no I wouldn't start Broadhead, as I'd give these lads another run out.HTL

I would have to work out who on the subs bench covers what position

Obviously if Broadhead doesn't start he and a goal keeper are 2 of the subs. We will need a sub for CB and FB. Then Embo has to be a sub, cos he will pop up with a goal... the 6th sub is up for grabs, Neil, Matete Mcgeady?

It is 6 subs you are allowed?

If it went to penalties you would want him on wouldnt you. Not sure you can have a sub just for that though...

He would definitely be on a pen (but we wont need those <laugh>). Its a tough one, with all his experience he could be useful. I have a feeling he will miss out and the bench will be similar to Sheff Wed (a). Broadhead or Pritchard is the toughest call for Neil.

Good to see Broadhead back and no new injuries reported, some good players won't make the start or even the bench.

Wycombe are currently behaving as you'd expect and accusing us of arrogance etc.

We've sorted a pub, the Argyle at Oxford Circus W1D 2LT which is on the Jubilee Line to Wembley. Links to all main stations inc Victoria Coaches. Opens at 10, seating outside, cracking pub. (Map and address below.)

Will Alex Neil be wearing his lucky tracksuit and will Ainsworth wash his hair for the occasion.

Will KLD be classy and restrained, who'll be with him.

If you're not going how will you be watching and what would your ideal team be.

I'm guessing Wycombe won't sell out and we'll have 45000 there one way or another.
Every Sunderland player should be made to read those statements from the wycamites. No matter how motivated our lads are, they would become even more determined.

‘CALCULATED,’ ‘KEEP IT’ – PLENTY OF SUNDERLAND FANS REACT TO PLAYER’S APOLOGY

Sunderland found themselves on the receiving end of some rough tactics at the weekend as a robust Wycombe team held them to a 1-1 draw.

233.9K

The Black Cats trailed for much of the encounter at Adams Park, equalising in a crazy period of injury time during which three players were sent off.

George Honeyman and Nathan Tyson were both dismissed for their roles in a mass brawl that ensued in the wake of Watmore’s equaliser, before Marcus Bean got a second yellow card for a foul on the flying winger.

That tackle forced Watmore to limp off the field and he’s now a doubt for this week’s crucial match against Barnsley.

Bean later apologised for the challenge on social media, claiming he meant no malice and wishing the 25-year-old a speedy recovery.

Sunderland fans are not impressed at the move. Whilst there seems to be low levels of animosity towards Marcus Bean, there’s plenty of vitriol in their responses at Gareth Ainsworth and Wycombe.

Here’s some of their thoughts in the aftermath of the result.

The biggest disgrace about

@wwfcofficial

is the manager, he deliberately sends his players out to foul and injure other players as he does not have the ability to coach them to play decent football! The foul on

@LukeONien

after 11 min was a red card offence also!
Still adamant ainsworth told his players to "leave one on" Watmore.

I have to be honest and say I think Wycombe have a worse reputation than is deserved. Just my opinion though.

I dont like their style of play but that is personal choice. It works for them though so fair play, plenty of people talk about results over performance and that is their mantra. They have players I really like in McLeary and Tafazolli in particular. I think their keeper is very decent too and the lad Horgan up front really grafts for second balls. If you look at how many headers Vokes wins it is remarkable and what we need to be prepared to do is win that second ball. A shield in front of Vokes will be key and I reckon ONien will be given that job. Jacobsen from set pieces is quality as well so we need to limit that, almost better to let them get a cross in from open play than foul them and let them load the box.

I even quite like Ainsworth. He always gives us plenty of credit. I think tactically he is very decent with what he has, I thought he was spot on against MK.

Anyway enough of a Wycombe love in from me. I think we might well go with the same team from the 2 legs. As good as Broadhead is I couldnt drop Clarke for this one. Possibly Roberts might sit out for Broadhead. I hope we stay back 4, and I know Neil prefers it so hopefully we will, because that way we will play more football and I think that will be key for us to get it done.

I agree with everything here, and have defended Ainsworth in the past , they can play a bit no doubt. However I still believe we will be comfortable winners if football is allowed to be the yardstick, the big pitch and occasion is massively to our advantage, and I think they also think that.. Personally I would prefer Alex to keep our ace up his sleeve, if he plays from the start we would have little cover if anything went wrong up front . Also the two wide men should have a field day against their defence and as has already been stated we are pretty good at penalties. And finally the prospect of Broadhead joining Stewart up front in the closing 30 mins is a mouth watering prospect. Their only hope imo. is a poor referee and this, all being well otherwise, is my only real worry. OaU

Despite their big club claims I thought Wednesday looked overawed on Monday. They were too busy celebrating the equaliser and we knifed them in the back. We froze against Charlton, in the play off final, but I think we'll come out and just play our normal game tbh.

Neil is far more cool than Ainsworth imo.

Is there any info on the fanzone yet that we will have? I went to the Checkatrade game against Pompey and we were in the East stand so I assume we have the other fanzone this time.

If scores are level a few minutes before the end of extra time I don’t think there is anything to stop Geads being subbed on - unless AN has reached his limit with subs, which he probably will have.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ainsworth told his players to target our front 4 - Stewart, Pritchard, Clarke and Roberts and for that reason I would leave Broadhead on the bench to start with. I don't think trying to match them will work but the players will have to keep their heads and try to play the football we're capable of. I'm confident that Batth and Wright will be able to take care of Vokes et al but the real battle will more than likely take place in the middle of the park so I would go with both Evans and O'Nien in there

The way Wycombe play reminds me of Leeds in the 60s, but with less skill, although they can play well when the spirit takes them. Unpleasant as they are, we should be grateful that they don’t have a player as nasty as Bobby Collins. I’ll never forget, and never forgive!

This is what I think as well. He will ask Roberts and Clarke to run them ragged for 60-70 mins then look to Embo and Broadhead when their defenders tire.

FFS, here we go with the bull <doh>

"I think they have 3x £10m plus players in Roberts, McGeady and Pritchard. Earlier in the season they were going on about Dan Neil being worth that and being sold to the Prem, then of course is Ross Stewart who is undoubtedly one of the best strikers I’ve seen at this level. The wage bill still must be astronomical in comparison to us!"

As far as I'm concerned this match is all about Sunderland and nothing else ...

... sadly that seems to be the case for Wycombe as well.
