Not been playing long but always seem to have a round where either my driver and irons are working or my pitching and putting is working. Never played competitive so don't actually have a handicap but am usually around the 95/100 mark. Played last Monday hit awful drives and long irons but was very good with the wedge and the putter ended up on 96. Played again Friday hit very good drives and long irons but awful with the wedge and the putter ended on 96. So frustrating as you know it's all there but never had that round when it all comes together. And yes I have to admit temper is one of my most obvious downfalls.
one of things that has helped me is to hit a few balls on the practice range before going out to play. At Ramside we had a good driving range and I spent 45 mins hitting balls before heading off to the tee, especially with short irons and wedges as this is what saves the most shots. Here in Abu Dhabi the same, it really does help.
Practise and the odd lesson for tweaks makes a massive difference. Also playing winter golf means my game is more up to speed. embedding in more controlled, 3/4 wedges and short irons for anything sub-150 yards, esp around 100 yards is vital. As is the chipping and putting. That work is starting to pay off, with consistent sub-80 scores. Shot. 76, 75 and 74 in last few rounds
haha. My last round I was 2 under on the back nine going down 16th, then 3-putted for a bogey. Followed by a double-bogey on both 17 & 18….ended up 3over. well, you did ask
Hit a two in a comp on Saturday (rare as rocking horse **** for me) and some rotten sod had a hole in one to reduce my winnings by half! Castle Eden in fantastic condition, thanks to @Peterleeyacker
I am due to play in the seniors team against another club on Thursday. I am still testing positive for Covid19. I was ill about a week ago with but am okay now. Not sure what to do? I have read you can test +ve for a while but not be infectious. Although some other 'advice' contradicts that. Sons girlfriend (a GP, wtf they know,) reckons I stay away from the more vulnerable, ie the old buggers I play golf with. Atm I am very frustrated, I have already split most of the logs that we will need for next winter and stacked them. I guess I should
Does Castle Eden have a driving range that anyone can use? When I'm feeling better im thinking of digging the clubs out and going along to see if I can remember what to do
It’s got a big field opposite which is used as a practice ground, I’m not sure if visitors can use it though. @Peterleeyacker will let you know, he’s one of the bigwigs in there. Have you got a handicap?
No handicap mate, haven't played in a couple of years, but as its just up the road thought I would dust the clubs off and try a range
Shame if it hasn't got a driving range, would like to take the boy along as well, he used to enjoy hitting a few balls and was pretty good. Looks like knotty Hill is the next closest to me
Don’t forget Cocken Lodge near Finchale. That has a driving range and a 9 hole course which is ok if you want to start golfing again.
