Inevitable. Good keeper, but he's not going to take the pay cut we'd be offering. Morison needs to stick to his guns, not that Tan would allow him to do anything else. Once the high earners are off the books and replaced, where needed, with players on lower wages, I can imagine our wage bill being 50 to 70 % of what it is now. I hope we get our young guns on a decent uplift with their new contracts. Cant afford them walking out the door. It might be another season or two in mid table, but getting the wage bill and playing style right is reason to make the sacrifice. Hoping we can be around the playoffs next year though.
Contradictory talk on WoL although with the rider that he would sell for the right money to the right buyer, i.e. no asset stripping yanks or anti human rights middle easterners. He has close to £100m in shares plus probably a similar amout in loans. So, that's a start point of £200m. I can't see many takers in that sort of amount for a lower level, albeit with potential, Championship side. Okay, any deal is likely to be structured over a period although that puts future cash flow pressures on a buyer. In addition I couldn't see anything happening until the Isaac and Sala outcomes are finalised. While VT has made mistakes and dug his heels in where perhaps he shouldn't, over 10 years or so he has shown he is an honourable man, compared to many other owners, and the loss of face in doing the wrong thing is a very big issue in his culture. Time will tell.
Following on this, it seems patently obvious the club needs an overhaul, fresh faces and a more pragmatic and modern day football outlook. The club needs to move on and unless Tan is able to/prepared to change direction and give it a said overhaul it would be preferable for someone else with the finances and vision to take up the reins. Every club can say it’s a sleeping giant with a huge fan base etc and City are no different. Maybe just maybe Tan does want out and if so thanks for everything but be careful what one wishes for.
I see James Connolly's contract expires this summer. He has done a terrific job at the Gas, playing every game since he went there and a key part of their rise up the league. To me we should be tying him down to a new contract ASAP. Morison mentioned there were some youngsters not yet prepared to agree new deals. I hope Connolly is not one of them. A trio of using centrebacks in McGuinness, Denham and Connolly would be great assets going 8nto next season.
Hope some of the youngsters arent getting ideas above their station in not agreeing contracts. Too much short termism and impatience with some. Getting their heads turned by agents. Hopefully Morison can sell the long term view and a pathway for these players into senior football.
Confirmed that Smithies is going at end of season. Shame as he has been very good for us after settling in but money talks and alas he's too expensive to keep on now. He also apparently wants to head back up north somewhere for family reasons too. Thanks Alex for all your efforts and good luck for the future.
So my reliable source lived up to his name. Not surprised really- am sure plenty of keepers of decent standard out there.
I'm hoping Phillips can step up. With more game time and (hopefully) a more solid back 4 or 5 in front of him his confidence will grow accordingly. Looks like he's first choice for the reminder of the season now so fingers crossed he beds in well. From memory quite a few of our better keepers all had shaky starts but went on to be key players, no reason why Phillips can't be the next.
Would be great if it happened but all journo chatter at present - generating from one to another. It could happen but there has to be a huge amount of financial concessions on both sides. Mostly by Bale.
Disappointing to read Man City looking to loan Doyle (and possibly Drameh) to a club higher in the league. How can they predict which club will be higher than another? Take this season - who’d have predicted eg Huddersfield Luton & Forest in top 6 going to the wire and eg WBA mid table and eg Reading fighting relegation?
Blimey - this would be quite a haul.............. https://the72.co.uk/270740/cardiff-city-eyeing-millwalls-jed-wallace/ https://the72.co.uk/270752/cardiff-...an-allsop-and-fulham-defender-michael-hector/
All greatly experienced Championship players. Wallace in particular would be a great capture. Morison links maybe. Can't see any obvious negatives in those.
Always thought Wallace is a decent, solid player. Good attitude, maybe not spectacular in general but someone who doesn't let you down, like a poor man's James Miller....
Every time we play Millwall my lad and I always groan when we see his name for the opposition. I understand he’s big mates with Morison so it’s not that surprising to hear this rumour. He’d be a huge improvement to our uncreative contracted midfielders.
Well, on that shocking performance it’s not easy to work out which area of the pitch needs new players more than the others - in other words every area is a priority. I’d have to say if pushed a keeper, left back, central defender, 2 central midfielders, 2 wingers and 2 forwards and that’s just for starters.
