Another keeper?.......... https://the72.co.uk/268875/cardiff-city-close-to-signing-st-mirren-goalkeeper-jack-alnwick/
Yes but it’s a difficult one especially as the keeper is such a pivotal position. Smithies demands big bucks and arguably is worth it (in relative terms) but whether Morison eyes using a saving on his wages to bring in more players is another matter. Incidentally I have no real issue with Phillips.
I've also read somewhere that Tan is imposing a £10k/wk cap on all new contracts. Given that Smithies is coming to the end of his £35K/wk contract, that would be a big big drop for him to stay on. He could probably command more than £10K with a current top flight Championship club, or even one of the relegees from the Prem. The question would be whether he was prepared to take that reduction with a significant "success" bonus on a new contract. Would he take the chance of signing up to a big bucks bang if we finished top 6, and an even bigger one if we got promoted? With regards to Phillips, I don't share your confidence. Every keeper makes mistakes but Phillips lacks confidence to me and there always looks a rick in him - quite frankly he scares me to death on times, particularly at opposition set pieces.
WoL have said the cap is £12k (but what do they know?). However I have heard from elsewhere that's what Ralls has been offered.
He may think he’ll get more elsewhere but I’d surprised. No club has ever shown any interest in him before, and he’s now even slower
Its an interesting one. 12k seems quite low (not by joe public's salary, but as a football club). With Tan on managing the budget, but we'll miss out on a lot of talent. Not sure what the number should be, but 12 seems low. Can imagine us losing out with some of our young guns as they develop.
Heard from a reliable source ie someone whom lives near him that Smithies’ house is on the market and he’s northbound.
