A bit early I know but as the press have already started naming links I thought we could follow? WoL say we are top of the list to sign New Saints "prolific" striker, Declan McManus. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that Elvis Costello's real name? Must be well into his 60's now, if not older. I thought we were trying to lower our squad age?
Hoping that Morison keeps his head down and cards close to chest. We and the press can speculate to our hearts content and then without preamble from the club we see Morison with a new signing, shirt in hand, talked about or not.
Looking at his track record I'm not sure he's Championship level and at 27 he's no spring chicken. But, as we know from our track record in signing strikers.........wait for it..........not long know........guess what's coming - "Accidents will happen" I'll get my coat.
Well that went a bit flat. Perhaps time to pump it up? Will you get my coat while you're there please?
A starter for 10 but I can't see any bonus points. Age 23, career so far non-league and Divs 1 and 2. Hardly a prolific scorer averaging 1 goal every 6 games. Worse than James Collins but that's not saying much. Competing with Ipswich and Pompey? Hardly a high bar. It's a no from me.
Given what we've seen, is Uche a signing we want to make? Price may be a stumbling block, but there are positives. We need someone a bit different from the Issacs and Harris of the squad. He's now a known quantity. He will have had 5 months of 'the Morison way' under his belt. He seems very much a club man with a good attitude and has thrown himself into Cardiff, allegedly being the most active Ayatollah doer, even in training. Last but not least, he's already scored more goals than a number of our previous 'big signings'. (Masky could have a cult figure to drool over that scores, trading up from Madine). In the round, if the price is right, I feel it would be a sensible signing. Relatively low risk. It would allow the search for A N Other as a striker to be more focussed. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/cardiff-city-face-summer-scrap-23484749
Agree with all of that but worry he could turn into another Madine/Collins etc once he got a full contract. Against that is his enthusiasm, unorthodox approach and he has actually scored a few times. He isn't blessed with high levels of skill and technique but his other attributes can overcome those. However, we can't afford him and Collins on the books so get shot of Collins ASAP then sign Uche. I think £500k would do it.
Another tick in the box for me. Uche Ikpeazu has not seen the international break as a time to put his feet up. Quite the opposite, in fact. While the striker headed out to Dubai, he wasn't there solely to soak up the sun and sample the food and drink on offer. Instead, clad from head to toe in Bluebirds clobber, the 27-year-old went on a boot camp to maintain his fitness levels for the final months of the season.
