Like I say i can only comment on my experience with him. You can have a different view. We are grown ups and can disagree. In my experience he is a very decent fella who cares about those who love the English game including the 'common man' as I understand the definition of it.

I agree, he's done a good job with England, and steadied the ship a bit after the Allerdyce debacle.

I believe I stated approx 3 years ago f*ck the Qatar world cup.

All the big teams should have failed to qualify deliberately and organised an alternative "world cup". It would have made a mockery of Qatar & FIFA imo. It would have f*cked Sky and all the TV channels around the world who I would assume would have already been contracted to show it.

Yes I accept it would have been a shame on players who may only get this chance but morally and ethically are they happy with this prospect? Are some of them even scared and may pull out with "injury" nearer the time.

All football seasons all ower the knot being interrupted to appease the few.

If its anything like the end of last seasons F1 the winners will already be decided.

I couldn't finish reading that article, Raheem Sterling questions why Sol Campbell hasn't had a managers job but Gerrard and Lampard have.

I mean a young black lad who earns more a week than most people will in a decade or so complains about privilege in the sport? Same as Lewis Hamilton, he is probably worse as ya family aren't scraping by if they get you into kart racing at a young age. Outlay is a lot more than a pair of boots and a ball, need to have a decent income to get your kids into that. Never looked into it but bet his family have good or had good jobs.

Agree he has done a decent job.

But hes leading our national side, in my mind your a leader so have a moral responsibility to get involved stating its nit right.....or the whole world sits on the fence & off we pop to Russia for Euro 2028.

It HAS to stop, as Smug points out you cant get involved pick & choose, show support for BLM....then bollocks to those migrant workers were off to the World Cup....thats not how equality works...or maybe thats just how it IS working at the moment

Don't mind Southgate as a person. But he's made himself look as soppy as a sack here. Should have done an Eddie Howe and kept schtum. Hes not up to his neck in it like Howe is so something along the lines of 'It is my job to prepare our national football team for competitive football matches, no matter where they send us to play. Sums up much of how I feel. Giving the world cup to Qatar was a horrible decision. Any boycott needed, in my opinion, to have been done then or close after. A boycott would be most effective if you did it in tandem, i.e. if all European sides pulled out and played another Euros at the same time. In my opinion, if England were to boycott in isolation it would not have the desired effect should other UK countries go and play, for example, or a neighbour like France.

Based on what I have read and heard England, and other European countries, are considering how best to make a difference when the tournament is on. I would be very surprised if there is not some consistent approach jointly implemented by the big European nations. Jordan Henderson suggested this was a possibility, but they need time to think about how best to make your point. Again, based on what I have read and heard Amnesty International and other organisations have told England they can have a much bigger impact by taking part and shining a light on things during the world cup, for maximum exposure, as opposed to boycotting.

There was an interesting article in the guardian after the most recent FA briefing on this. They suggested one thing we could do, along with other big nations, is choose not to profit from the world cup and give back their millions earned from it to the migrant workers who have been robbed of wages, or families of migrant workers who have died. I would find that a positive step that whilst not necessarily making a change for the future, it may shame FIFA and the government of Qatar into some sort of compensation and accepting what has been allowed to happen cant happen again. Not sure how ever that could be implemented though, but at least it was a suggestion to the FA.

I coach young players and am part of a committee for a grassroots club. We are discussing how we can do some education programme for the kids in the build up to the tournament. I always use tournaments on tv in coaching sessions and to complement what we do on the grass. I will be making sure that we discuss human rights and the exploitation/ slavery of migrant workers with the older age groups, alongside the football element. I fully expect the England players and management team to make their own points during the tournament that will help me discuss it with the kids I coach.
