So, after two years of all over 50s getting the flu jab on the NHS (it’s not free, we pay for the NHS), as of this year it will revert to the over 65s only. A pretty overt bit of short term thinking and cost cutting. I’ll probably pay for one at Boots, but the overall message is mixed - if under 65s don’t need a jab now, why did we for the last two years?

This was the first year ( 2021 ) I was invited to get the flu jab. ( I was/am 55 ) I didn't take them up on it as I've had all three jabs from Covid 19. I'm still not sure whether to have so much immunisation pumped into my body?
I spoke to Beth at the Blackpool game, she said it should be fine. I'm still not sure. I'm reluctant to take a paracetamol or ibuprofen unless I really have to. I've had flu once and brandy helped.
I was on duty one night when the flu suddenly hit. It was a Saturday night and in the space of an hour I went from capable to completely unfunctional. The officer in charge said I could go to bed for the night. As we had enough people to cover me. Then I was told ( I was a specialist driver that I had to work at New Malden! ) There was no way in the world I would be capable of that and was sent home, sick. ( Very rare for me. )
Our staff section made a big hoo ha about it and questioned how ill I was? I went home and couldn't function for a week. I've had man flu before and this was definitely not man flu.

Should I still get the flu jab?

I don’t think I’ve ever had flu, but I have had pneumonia and I was off three weeks with that, only avoided hospitalisation by a whisker. I paid to have the pneumonia jab just before COVID hit, and I know that they are not necessarily hugely effective, but I would take any opportunity to cut my chances of going through that again. I wouldn’t tell anyone what they should do, but if you know how bad the flu can be, why not get a bit of protection?

It has been to be honest
    Bit like a mild cold
    Probably just lucky
Could do without the constant sweating though and mostly lost the sense of smell
Wife has it too but the two kids havent

There’s definitely a mini surge amongst my age group (this doesn’t include Kiwi) at the moment.

I saw my GP last week about something relatively minor and he said 'Oh, I see you haven't had your flu jab, would you like one now?' I said that I didn't think that there'd been much flu around this year but he told me that there'd been an upsurge recently of people with flu symptoms but testing negative for Covid. So I had the jab.

    Everyone seems different.
I had the sorest throat I can ever remember having, headache, shivers on the first night and then a strange stitch in my side. Extreme tiredness and brain fog.
Never lost my sense of smell or taste though.

No. I did have a sore arm, though. I didn't feel a thing for any of the Covid jabs.

I didn't feel anything after the first two but felt like I'd been punched by Mike Tyson after the booster.

Again, what you decide is completely up to you. I would have a flu jab ( and have already have).
If it reduces my risk of getting ill and in fact dying that is good.
