Mandatory jabs for NHS workers likely to be scrapped. Argument that omicron has reduced the risk sufficiently to allow this will be made. Yes, but the risk has been reduced because of…..vaccinations. We were talking about this in the pub before the game on Saturday, and pretty much predicted this decision. Hope the logic, if there is any, isn’t extended to things like hepatitis jabs that healthcare workers are meant to have…… Do I have the right to decline to be treated by an unvaccinated medic? I would probably want to do this, not out of fear of catching covid, but out of the assumption that the person taking this decision might not be a premier league professional….
Touch wood that nothing ever bad happens but if i were to break my leg then i wouldnt give a flying **** if the person treating me was vaccinated or not.
I'm really torn on this. I feel uncomfortable with any form of compulsory medical treatment, but then, surely medical professionals would want to be vaccinated against a pandemic. I suspect that there are many different reasons for NHS workers to refuse the jab. Personally, I think they ought to have it, but I'm a little uneasy forcing them to in fear of losing their jobs.
I worry about the precedent it sets, if vaccinations aren't mandatory among NHS staff. Maybe something should be written into employment contracts going forward.
After a quick Google, I can't see that it is. There seems to be a general duty for nurses and midwives to take reasonable steps to maintain their own health and the health of patients. This is the Code I found: https://www.nmc.org.uk/news/coronavirus/vaccines/
My wife had to have the Hep B jab - maybe it's due to her client group, but got the impression it was mandatory
Surely, the point is, you won't get a pandemic of Hepatitis. But during the Covid pandemic, the vast number of seriously ill patients in ICU were unvaccinated. So vaccinations meant that there was more hospital space for other serious cases.
Now if there was a vacine that totally worked 100% and you couldnt pass the virus on if you were vacinated, then i would agree.
