Assuming Diamond goes back to Harrogate then we have Gooch Dajaku Roberts McGeady as our wide options. Maybe Johnson isn't expecting to use McGeady much between now and end of season

We seem to be building a squad of players who can operate in various positions ...

... Winchester, Doyle Wright, Dajaku, etc.

    Makes sense to me.

If memory serves he was at Leeds I think and was very highly rated in the championship. Huggins might know him. Must admit I had no idea he was even at Spurs. So many young players seem to get lost after their breakthrough. Would be another signing for us that would be about rebuilding a player who has the natural talent.

I wouldn't say we'd need another winger but its another one of those where hes shown promise way beyond where we are now and if hes available you go for it. Shows the risks of being young and doing well and then having your head turned by the PL. Basically disappeared into the U23s and had bits of loans where hes been unable to get any momentum.

I can see the appeal if he can play wing back, winger or forward mind. Wonder if we may try Dajaku through the middle too, I think he has played there previously and he'd definitely be a threat in behind.

Hopefully these young lads will eventually realise that they become minnows in these big ponds and their careers can easily go down the drain ...

... it's pointless hoping the PL will stop these huge trawlers scooping up anyone who looks promising only to toss most overboard for the seagulls.

If it's the Leeds player, and I think it is, he certainly had potential to be a really good player.

Clarke can play wing back as well... would be an upgrade at RWB on Gooch.

It is. The fact he's even considering dropping down to League One is pretty shocking to me. I can't believe there aren't Championship clubs all over him

There's definitely a masterplan at the club which may actually be unique, even under Short it was chaos disguised as order.

So perhaps one of our aims is to take in lads with obvious talent, put them in the shop window and cash in at the right time.

Traditionally our squad is always worth much less than we've paid ...

... I'd say it's currently worth quite a bit more which is quite bizarre in our case.

Also what will Hume, Gooch, etc fetch, more than we paid for sure.

There is definitely a methodical approach which is both unique and refreshing for us after years of seemingly scattergun approaches.

We just need to make sure we have enough players for 'now' and not just an eye on 12 months time so we can get out of this godforsaken league. Batth is certainly a now signing so am happy we have that balance.

I hope the likes of these boys will show lads like Dan Neil that the grass isn’t always greener. While it would be wrong to deny a kid the chance to move to the big boys, it should be done when they’re ready for a crack at it. Not as a way of depriving other teams of the talent that they bring through.

  19. Good post mate. This is one of the concerns for me. We're assembling quite a lot of prodigious talent for the future, which I'm delighted about, but,in the case of a striker for instance,we need a "now" cover for LND in case of injury.
